Two former American Ambassadors to at the 9/11 Memorial in front of the new HQ in Brussels. I’ll never forget that our allies invoked Article 5 with and for us the following day. They had our back and are still in Afghanistan with us. Allies strengthen the U.S.

We should not forget that all of us come from immigrant families. It is the central story of the American experience. The facts show that immigrants strengthen us economically. And they are a big part of the American dream.

It is Immigration that keeps the U.S. as the second youngest great power (after India) in demographic terms. That strengthens our long-term economic health. And it strengthens our moral health as we remain an immigrant nation.

The plaque at the base of the Statue of Liberty reads: “Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free, the wretched refuse of your teeming shore,” she wrote. “Send these, the homeless, tempest-tossed to me, I lift my lamp beside the golden door!”

UN Human Rights Council is often hypocritical. Major abusers Iran and Russia have excessive influence. But we are better off contesting them inside rather than outside. And to leave when we are violating rights of children on our southern border is a hypocritical place to be.

I have lived to see the day when a Republican president attacks the mainstream media for being overly critical of the dictator of North Korea, a Communist gulag state. Does anyone else think that's weird? Or am I just a relic?

To be clear, immigrants, legal or not, are people who want to improve their lives. To refer to them as animals or insects is to foster hate. What’s happening in Washington and on our border is sad, wrong, and unamerican.

Blatant interference in German politics once again. Wrong on the facts once again. And given his policy of separating children from their parents, he might reflect that he lives in a glass house.

It is indeed a turning point that an American President would seek to drive from office our most important ally. Unprecedented and wrong. Trump has not just ceased being leader of the North Atlantic Alliance. He is actively undermining it.
