The SNP is manufacturing constitutional grievance to further its own aims of breaking up Britain. The nationalists want devolution to fail.

"Indignant" "repeated strategic & tactical errors" "foolish hostility". Strong criticism of the SNPs antics from one of their own. Would quietly suggest as required reading for some WM commentators this week....

It’s not just the School of Art, but the O2 ABC too. Seen so many amazing gigs in there. Terrible devastation but a miracle no one was hurt.

GSofA fire update: this is still very much a live & complex incident. Some local residents have been evacuated & provided with shelter; hope they can go home later today. We are all so upset about this precious place but please heed advice: stay away & stay safe.

Rubbish. You pulled a daft stunt and you silenced yourself. I speak from experience - we tried the same choreographed hissy-fit once (Lisbon treaty 2008) and we looked as shallow and pointless then as you do today.

Looking forward to the day you try explaining (preferably in a tv studio interview, and with a straight face) your line that there’s a normative normally that needs to be distinguished from a descriptive normally. I’d tune in for that one!

They blundered on regardless. But the SNP cannot have it both ways. Either the fast-tracking of the Continuity Bill was unnecessary, or Sewel does not apply. If the former, the Continuity Bill should be repealed; if the latter the SNP should put their toys back in the pram.

When the SNP introduced the Continuity Bill, the SNP said they needed to fast-track it because these are “not normal circumstances”. I warmed them this meant, in effect, that Sewel would not apply. Because Sewel applies only “normally”.

Sewel says Westminster will not normally legislate with regard to devolved matters without Holyrood’s consent. In this case, Holyrood enacted emergency legislation (the Continuity Bill)

Lots of Nationalists on here throwing their toys out of their prams (or, at least, threatening to) because they don’t understand the Sewel Convention, I see. So, here’s a summary:
