Nope nope nope. First it started in Syria Sol invicita, then the romans adopted it as their state religion. Then christianity started in Syria then the romans adopted THAT as their religion. THEN later, the romans co-opted Germanic holidas like Yule & made them call it christmas.

the date was chosen to co-opt Syria's pagan religion not the european yule festival which isn't on the 25th.

It's another equinox celebration, but not on the 25th, that was eventually co-opted by christianity. But the romans took much longer to get to germany compare to Syria.

Palestine was a province of greater Syria, so both can be true.

After all Europe, and the entire world, has been influenced by the pre-Abrahamic Syrian religion "Sol-Invictus" which can be seen in words like "solstice. Other cultures had an equinox celebration like Yule, but only Syria's was on the 25th Dec, which everyone celebrates now.

Yes Christ was born, but they chose to make it on the 25th of December which was Syria's Sol Invicta, why do you think they call it the solstice.

Yes, coco cola gave Santa his red and white clothing, and yes Christmas has become commercialised. But is in the near east, and due to its proximity to Europe, western influences are as unavoidable, but that's ok it's not necessarily a bad thing we've influenced Europe too

Im getting asked why Syrians celebrate christmas like "westerners", when actualy Christmas started in not the west. Before christianity christmas started a Syrian pagan holiday called Sol invicita. Also, Christianity started in the levant. Santa (nicholas) was Anatolian.

Santa was anatolian, so he's more syrian than western, and snow falls here so i don't see why that would be an exclusively western thing. Syria has always had a winter solistace celebration that pre-dates christianity.

When Chomsky says the "kurdish controlled areas are the only functioning part of Syria" he means it's the only place the US empire has a foothold.
