Search Engine Optimization (SEO) Resources
Optimizing a web site for search engines is much more than putting a bunch of keywords on your web pages. You need to determine the best keywords for your web site. Instead of guessing which keywords would be used by your prospective visitors, get the actual list of search queries used by web surfers to find web sites through search engines. For a thorough SEO process you also need to check the keyword density on your web pages. Too many keywords and search engines will think you are using spamming techniques and if the number of keywords is too low your site will not be anywhere near the top. Another important aspect of SEO is to conduct a Link Popularity Campaign to check your site's link popularity. You can perform link popularity checks using several of these online services and tools.
Web Site Promotion Resources
The first step for web site promotion is to submit it to all the major search engines and directories. You can manually submit your web site for free to search engines using the free search engine submission services available on the web or use automatic search engine submission. Also, read the advantages/disadvantages of manual and automatic submission services because this might determine how your web page is ranked on web search engines. Once the submission process is over you should use the web site ranking tools and services available online to find your web site rank. Google, the most popular search engine (Go to list of search engines and directories), also uses a proprietary Page Rank (PR) technology to determine rankings of web pages. Search engine optimization and promotion requires a lot of dedicated effort. If your web site still fails to get high positions and ranks, you should consider promoting it through Google Adsense advertisements.
Finally, if your web site URL is too long, you can always use the shorten URL services that will provide you with a shorter URL - this obviously involves redirecting your visitors from one server to the actual web site server.
Email Resources
The trend of providing free online email accounts took off in a big way because of Hotmail, which was the favorite free email account provider for a long time. Then came the shook-the-web-world announcement from Google, a very popular search engine, that they would be offering 1GB email accounts. This was a massive jump from the small mailbox sizes from all other email account providers. Google called their service Gmail and it began by freely giving 1GB of email accounts to users. Yes, it was free but only to special invitees. So you HAD to be invited by another Gmail user. Not only was this a novel way to promote their service - it was prestigious to own a Gmail account! This exclusivity made Gmail a hit, which should not to undermine the excellent features Google built into this service. Gmail soon had competition from other services offering larger email account space. However, Gmail users soon had larger email Inboxes - It's almost 2.8GB and growing (Feb 2007 - a 1GB increase over last year).
Gmail is now open for everyone - Get your free Gmail account.
Outlook Express Resources
I don't think it would be wrong to say that Outlook Express is the most popular email client around. I have been using it since the time I came to know of it and it's been my favorite piece of software. Assuming that you too would be using this email client, here is a list of programs to create backups of emails from Outlook Express. And if you have ever been negligent, you can easily recover passwords from Outlook Express email accounts using these resources.
For Spam, I suggest that you pick up some anti spam filters for outlook Express and use these tools to block unsolicited email (spam). You can also join the fight against spam with these spam resources.
Spyware Resources
The threat from Spyware and Adware has been rated at par with viruses and worms. To detect and remove spyware/adware from your system, you need install and run an adware/spyware removal tool. Here are some popular spyware remover programs and software for download. By the by, there is a subtle difference between sypware and adware. Adware are programs that not only intrude your privacy but also display advertisements.
Web Toolbars
Web toolbars are browsers plugins; and Internet Explorer being such a popular browser, I have put a page especially for Internet Explorer toolbars. Once installed, Toolbars usually place themselves just above the active area (The area in which web sites are displayed). These free toolbars will not only increase your productivity, they will also block pop-up ads, phishing attacks, provide valuable data on the site you are visiting etc. So get these cool toolbars to enhance your web surfing.
