It’s no Accident I Purposely read a Jill Shalvis

2017 has started off a little rocky for me on the reading front. It doesn’t happen very often but I have been dragging my feet to pick up my kindle. So basically... Elle and Archer have wanted each other for practically ever. But they're difficult. And clueless. And think the other just wants to be friends or just tolerates them *hangs head* Dude. Everyone knows they want in each others panties. Every. One. Except them. lol Elle moving on and deciding to date other men? Well. That's Archer's breaking point. Rational thought...goodbye. No one is getting his girl but him. And so a battle of wills begins.

I loved these two together. They aren't fluffy sweet romance. More combative and all about the bickery and driving each other a little crazy. But the caring and sweetness between them was there too. And it was seriously fun watching their clueless selves not realize the other wanted them back. They're stubborn, driven, hard headed, and still dealing with some hard bits in the past when he was a cop and rescued teenage her from danger.

The room kind of sizzled when they were in it together but goodness did they futz things up for a while. lol There's a little heat but not as much as hers usually have I didn't think. But there were some real fun and sassy moments getting to the naughty.

Add a bit of suspense to the mix with her ne'er do well sister coming around needing help and some time on the job with Archer and his security guys--omg I'm seriously going to need their stories--and it was really just an interesting and dynamic read. There were some great moments with their friends and some really touching ones as they both healed damaged family relationships.

Another win from Shalvis! The Heartbreaker Bay series has me totally smitten with another wonderful group of crazy, eclectic friends that have tremendous heart. Definitely people I'd want to call friends and that I've been tickled watching fall in love. I can't wait for the next one!

I have been waiting for Elle and Archer's story ever since the first book in the series. They just obviously belonged together but I knew that watching them figure it out would be a lot of fun. This book lived up to my expectations and I really enjoyed watching Elle and Archer admit their feelings both to themselves and each other.

Elle and Archer are very close. They have known each other for a long time and actually have a very interesting history that really explained a lot. Elle feels like she is in Archer's debt because of the events of the past. Archer does not feel like Elle has cause him any damage and has looked out for her over the years. They both have deep feelings for each other but they have never acted on them.

I liked learning about Elle's past. She is such a confident and put together woman and it was interesting to learn just how different her teen years were. It really explained why she works so hard to better herself and strives to be as perfect as she can. The fact that Archer knows about her past is a fact that Elle never forgets. He doesn't hold anything against her and is in fact impressed by all that she has accomplished.

I loved Elle and Archer together. The chemistry between the pair was incredibly intense. Waiting for them to actually act on their attraction to each other was intense and I was relieved when they finally kissed. The way they acted towards each other as the book progressed was fun to watch. Their romance ended up being as intense as I had expected.

I would highly recommend this book to fans of contemporary romance. This is the third book in the Heartbreaker Bay series but it could be read as a stand alone. It was fun to hang out with the characters from the previous books again for a little while. I hope that we see a few more books in this wonderful series.

This was such a great read! One of my very favorite things is when the main characters bicker and argue, when they have that off the charts animosity that's filled with tension and need and it's oh so entertaining. Archer and Elle definitely fit the bill!

I loved the playfulness throughout and how challenging they both could be. I thought there was really good development and I enjoyed learning their history. I also loved when they open up bit by bit and more emotion and vulnerability come into play. I thought there was a nice balance with it all.

I have to say though, as much as I liked them, they were both seriously stubborn and on more than one occasion, I wanted to smack them because that back and forth, as fun as it could be, got a bit tedious. Of course, by the end when everything plays out it was totally worth it and I was trying not to cry, but there were parts with their drama that did feel a bit drawn out to me. Archer and Elle are crazy and fun and exasperating all at once! I loved them together and this friction they had but I loved those tender moments even more.

I really like the family that all of their friends and other couples have created, it's so fun and sweet. Their interactions create some seriously entertaining and sweet moments that had me laughing. Love the men ribbing each other and the women and their meddling. Love all the interactions with Spencer, I'm chomping at the bit for his story.

The writing was great, I enjoyed the story. It was light and fun with a good mix of entertainment and drama. A fantastic HEA! Jill Shalvis books always leave me feeling extremely happy with a smile in my face. Loved Archer and Ella's story. They're both rather complicated and stubborn but loyal and loving and watching them connect was fantastic.

Elle and Archer have always been my favorite of this series, so I was beyond thrilled to see they got their own book.

I love Elle and Archer both. They're both so headstrong and it was amusing to see them try vulnerability and openness. I loved their banter and the chemistry has always been on point and it definitely continued here.

They pushed and pulled, give and took, all while driving each other crazy. I felt like an honorary member of the Heartbreaker Bay crew, shamelessly riveted to the delicious drama unfolding with every paragraph. Side note: I want to be besties with this group of friends. They have each other’s backs but they aren’t afraid to smack some sense into each other. The fun-loving, humorous banter between these characters gives an added bit of magic to the series, providing an excellent incentive for a reader to keep coming back for more.
Accidentally on Purpose (and the series as a whole) is about fate, and true love, and the promise of happily ever after, which is perfect for indulging one's not-so-inner romantic. Like previous books in the Heartbreaker Bay series, I couldn't get enough of Accidentally on Purpose. To me, the sign of a good book is loathing the idea that the story is coming to an end, and, while reading this book, I sincerely wished it were a hundred (or more) pages longer. Archer and Elle are two characters who commanded my attention and didn't relinquish it until the very last page, and even then, my mind desperately wanted to linger in the Heartbreaker Bay world. The only thing left to say is...who's next?

Since Elle blew in like a hurricane back into Archer’s ordered life a year ago, their already fraught sniping at each other finally changes that holding pattern when Elle attempts to move on. Their incorrect perceptions of each other form the root of the conflict - Elle thinks that she is always indebted to Arc Archer and Elle have a very long history and it isn’t an entirely happy one, filled with ghosts of the pasts and inexplicable feelings that both can’t articulate beyond yearning and want. Since Elle blew in like a hurricane back into Archer’s ordered life a year ago, their already fraught sniping at each other finally changes that holding pattern when Elle attempts to move on. Their incorrect perceptions of each other form the root of the conflict - Elle thinks that she is always indebted to Archer while he tries to convince himself that all he wants is for her safe and at a distance - but it’ll take more than just the growing sexual tension between them for things to snap.

‘Accidentally on Purpose’ somehow feels like the furthest from the light-hearted and sometimes clichéd-ridden plots that I associate with Jill Shalvis’s books. Instead, it’s grittier, more drama-filled, more angsty than usual and even skirts the edge of suspense with a whole load of emotions gutted so raw that I found it difficult to put the book down at all, making it as a whole, a story so surprisingly engrossing that stopping ceased becoming an option. Surfacing at an unholy hour after finishing it, then putting together the words for a review became a problem I happily wanted to have, because such moments - thank my cynical self - are dismally rare these days.

Many aspects of the story were compelling simply because it felt as though Shalvis seemed to finally let go a little of the preppy, rom-com (and frankly, exhausting) tropes that have been cheerfully employed in most of her series and dug a little deeper to explain and unravel the complexity that surrounded Archer's and Elle’s personal histories. And there was much to reveal. At every turn, it felt as though I was uncovering hidden aspects of her lead characters that I never quite felt with the rest of the peanut gallery in the first two books thanks to their shared history, but that simply could be the wonderful characterisation of Elle and Archer (probably more of the former) that ensnared me from the start - which definitely contributed to the scorching heat and subsequent explosion when their simmering cauldron of unspoken attraction and yearning finally spilled over.

It’s fair to say that Elle generally brought out the fangirl in me: that ice-cool strength, the no-nonsense and take-no-prisoners attitude that were the only things that could counter Archer’s emotionally-stunted behaviour. I cheered for her for calling him out when he hid behind reasons so flimsy it took her sharpness to tear it open, for asking him the difficult questions that he couldn’t directly answer and for pushing back in some manner so that she wouldn’t be given the short-straw when he in turn, tried to push her away. Hard when she needed to be, caring because she couldn’t help it, I’m almost tempted to say, like Archer, that Elle’s “it for me".

As ready as I was to give up on this series, I’m suddenly glad I didn’t. ‘Accidentally on Purpose’ is probably one of the more entertaining reads to graze my e-reader in a while and as much I don’t exactly like first two books, the third is proved to be everything I hoped for.

I've been looking forward to Archer's story since Jill Shalvis' the last full book in the Heartbreaker Bay series. Archer is so closed off with quiet confidence and he's hard core scary to everyone. He's my second favorite guy in the series!

And then there's Elle. She scares just about every guy because she's got the "Boss" thing going on. She dresses immaculately, she has a "take no prisoners" attitude, and she oozes control. From book one, Elle and Archer have been like oil and water, most of t I've been looking forward to Archer's story since Jill Shalvis' the last full book in the Heartbreaker Bay series. Archer is so closed off with quiet confidence and he's hard core scary to everyone. He's my second favorite guy in the series!

And then there's Elle. She scares just about every guy because she's got the "Boss" thing going on. She dresses immaculately, she has a "take no prisoners" attitude, and she oozes control. From book one, Elle and Archer have been like oil and water, most of the time they don't mix up easily but give them a good shake and they are very tasty (I like mine on salad).

We finally learn why these two are so combustible.. they share a past. I had no idea!! That was pretty cool to find out and not get spoiled for me. We learn a lot about where Elle comes from and it was a total surprise to me how she built her life. She works very hard. She goes to school for two hours every morning before work and she's going to be an accountant. I fell in love with Elle's character even more!

When I learned about Archer's past and how his intertwined with Elle's, I got even more giddy about this story. This was turning out to be more than just a happy-go-lucky romance. This one had "meat" (for lack of a better term). The romance is back and forth so much because they are both dealing with moving forward despite their shared pasts. One thinks the other has baggage (sort of) that is making them feel like they owe the other to be with them. Archer doesn't want Elle to feel like she has to be with him to pay him back. Elle doesn't want Archer to feel like he has to protect her for the rest of her life. That's a tough situation to try and build a relationship from.

Characters from previous books show up to support these characters but it's done in such a way that you don't have to have read the previous books in the series. It's great if you have because some of the jokes are funnier that way. But you'll still be able to enjoy the story and this couple thoroughly without having read the previous books. I did like the addition of Elle's sister to the story. I didn't think she got in the way of the couple, nor was her story too overwhelming or did it over-shadow their romance. Archer's dad was an interesting addition and I've got to say, Ms. Shalvis honestly surprised the heck out of me with the retirement dinner. It's hard to surprise a romance reader anymore, especially because the formulas, I think, are starting to run out. Apparently, they're not all gone ;)

I just found out that my most favorite character, Spencer, gets his HEA this fall with a Christmas story called Chasing Christmas Eve. I did dance a little jig when I found out. Rich nerds need love, too :)

No one does romantic comedy quite like Jill Shalvis. And Accidentally on Purpose was a shining example of why I’ve been a fan of her writing for so long. From the down-to-earth, quirky group of friends I’ve come to adore, to the entertaining predicaments they always find themselves in, I swear I never stopped smiling while reading this story.

Read this one in a day and loved it just as much as the previous books in the series. I love all of these characters and really like how they all have pasts and aren't just meeting for the first time in the books. If you haven't started this series by Jill Shalvis and you're a romance fan, I definitely recommend it! I haven't read anything by her yet that I didn't love.

Sometimes I wish Ms. Shalvis wrote more serious matter, because she really excels at it, but then again the hilarious banter might be absent, and a humorous tone is Jill Shalvis’ trademark. As usual, ACCIDENTALLY ON PURPOSE features the banter, the snark, and the giggles. Both Archer and Elle had superb backstories, which has defined their outlook on life; I felt Archer dealt better with things, because Elle is so set in her way of not wanting any help from anyone, that she is seriously aggressive towards almost anyone who tries to be kind.

I usually don’t fancy alpha heroes that much, but Archer is fabulous; he’s very protective, and it’s because what Elle’s early life had been, and he does want the best for her. He is a control freak, but so is Elle, but he’s nice, or tries to be; I really liked him, and I thought Elle was really too stubborn and determined to hate him, no matter how she really felt. I found Elle quite disagreeable; she’s proud, she feels guilty towards Archer, but it just went on a tad too long; I mean, get over it, woman! While I understood Elle’s issues and where she was coming from, enough is enough: try to live in the present, and accept what the man offers you; Archer was upfront and honest, and he really tried, but Elle was a tough nut to crack! Also, I might be accused of nitpicking here, but all the talk of wanting to strangle people, to kill people, while meant in jest, left me quite uncomfortable, because there was just too much of it. And most of the time, it was pointless. If you don’t mind a mule-headed woman who takes a long time to get around, you will enjoy ACCIDENTALLY ON PURPOSE.

Elle and Archer have undeniable chemistry, although this is translated into antagonism on either side, everyone around them is aware of the fire burning between Ella Archer and they are just waiting for it to explode. However, they are unaware of the history between Elle and Archer where a single event altered the course of both of their lives. Both Elle and Archer carry the weight of that event within them but their perspectives are very different and create the barriers between them, yet they Elle and Archer have undeniable chemistry, although this is translated into antagonism on either side, everyone around them is aware of the fire burning between Ella Archer and they are just waiting for it to explode. However, they are unaware of the history between Elle and Archer where a single event altered the course of both of their lives. Both Elle and Archer carry the weight of that event within them but their perspectives are very different and create the barriers between them, yet they have a connection that is so much deeper than they initially realise.

Archer has kept a protective watch over elle since that fateful first meeting, although Elle is unaware of his presence in her life. Elle has had a very difficult upbringing and overcome her less than illustrious beginnings to create the life she has only dreamt of and become the woman she is proud of. The only thing missing from her life is a solid, mutually beneficial relationship. There is a sense of inevitability to the relationship between Elle and Archer, no matter how much they try to fight it they belong together.

I adored Archer and Elle and the way they fit so perfectly together. Elle is completely kickass from the top of her head to her designer heels - sassy and self-sufficient, she is a role model to all those who belief their upbringing defines them. While Archer is the strong, silent type to the point of brooding - it is only Elle that lights him up like a lightbulb ;)

The continuing theme within the Heartbreaker Bay series focuses on family not necessarily being the people you are related to by blood but those that are there to support you through good and bad times.

There are elements of action and adventure within the plot taking the form of Elle's sister, Morgan, and the trouble that tends to follow in her wake.

Accidentally on Purpose clearly shows that the past does not define you as a person or control your future, it is possible to change your course for the better if you are willing to work for it. ...more

I have been a big fan of Jill Shalvis for some time, and I have always loved her work. However, this book has got to be my all-time FAVORITE Shalvis book!

Elle Wheaton has a past that not many know about. She has overcome that past and is making something of herself. Between work and school, she doesn’t have time for anything, or anybody else.

This is the third book in the series - and I loved those too but this one is just perfect! I would recommend that you read them in order, so that you understand the background better, but it is a great read on its own too.
