(I received an advance copy of this book for free. Thanks to HarperCollins and Edelweiss.)
This was a YA retelling of 4 fairy tales, all featuring Kendra.
Kendra was an okay character, but I didn’t love her. It was interesting to see the part she played in the other fairy tales in this book though.
The storyline in this consisted of 4 short stories one after another, the first was about a girl in a red cloak (Little Red Riding Hood?) but was actually about the Salem witch trials, and featured Ann ...more

The thing that I like most about Alex Flinn's Kendra Chronicles series is that there is this magical blend of fairytales into contemporary or historical society. And this book is also like that - be it blending Little Red Riding Hood into the Salem witch trials, Rumplestiltskin in 18th century Germany, East of the Sun, West of the Moon in WWII era or Ugly Duckling in a high school. Flinn nicely slips the elements of the fairytale into that narrative, with Kendra being the link connecting things

This story weaves four classic fairy tales into a surrounding story of Kendra's life from her days as a servant in Salem at the time of the witch trials when she met her true love James to Bavaria in 1812 when she is a bookseller to the 1940s when a young woman needs to find her husband somewhere east of the sun and west of the moon and to the modern day where she finally reconnects with James in a modern high school.

Thanks to Edelweiss and the publisher for access to this title in return for a fair review.
I've really enjoyed reading Kendra's tale as it has come out in parts and pieces in each of the last few books by Flinn, but this one really ties things together into one overarching story. After I finished each one I would think that it was my favorite, and that would last until I had finished the next section. I particularly loved the way Flinn changed the stories slightly to give them more of a happier ...more

3.5 Stars. The individual fantasy stories were good (ESPECIALLY the first one), but there was really no development in the romance department. They just kind of... were in love. Why? Who knows? Who cares?

Oh my gosh, YES!
When I was younger and first read the other books, Kendra 'helping' others find love made me sad that she was a lone traveler of a sort with seemingly no one. I alway fantasied her having a warlock lover who would probably understand her and was just really distant, so to have this Kendra-centric story...

Kendra is a witch who has been around for a long, long time. This book covers some of the people she has helped bring together. Each story is a retelling of a fairy tale.
I truly enjoyed this book. The only other book in the Kendra Chronicles that I have read is Beastly and that was because I wanted to watch the movie. I have had my eye on other books in the series but haven’t really had the chance to pick them up. So when I got my hands on this book and with it being Halloween I figured I would ...more

Obviously have not read yet as it has yet to come out, but just jotting down my thoughts.
I've been having the internal debate of whether or not to read Alex Flinn's stuff due to the amount of seemingly highly controversial reviews; it felt like you'd either love or loathe her work, and I wasn't sure what end of the spectrum I'd end up being, therefore I didn't know if it's worth investing my time open.
However, from the initial plot reveal on the author's Pinterest board,it feels like this book

This was a fun, easy read. I loved the re-telling of all the popular fairy tales and how Kendra fit into the stories. Without giving too much away, I was pretty happy with the Rumplestiltskin story and how it turned out. Kendra was a great character, she was strong, independent and funny; it was fun to see her change and grow as the centuries passed.
