On top of grieving the death of Theo, is he also struggling with his OCD getting out of hand, pushing away the other member of their 'squad", Wade, and finally meeting Jackson. This is the moment of the end. This is where we give up hope on reversing time, where we abandon finding a cure to death, where we live in this Theo-less universe, where we say goodbye.

I never thought I’d say something like this about an Adam Silvera book, ever, but here’s the ugly truth: I struggled to finish History Is All You Left Me.

Really, really struggled.

It’s not that it isn’t lyrically-written, like More Happy Than Not, because it truly is—and more.

The writing is excellent, as is the m

"Just because someone is forgiving, it doesn't make asking for forgiveness easy."

History Is All You Left Me is Adam Silvera's second novel, and it may be even better than his debut More Happy Than Not. Silvera tells a story of love, friendship and mourning in face of loss.

Plot:
Griffin loses his first love, best friend and ex-boyfriend Theo in an accident. Left behind and feeling lost and lonely in his grief, he recounts their history, their relationship, first-times, happy times and not-so-happy

There's nothing quite like an Adam Silvera novel.

Both of his books are so heartbreakingly raw, real and beautiful. The entire time I was reading this I felt like I was truly experiencing things through Griffin, and it caused me to relive some tough memories from my own past. I also lost a friend to a drowning accident when I was a teenager and it's something you can never truly 'get over'. Anyways, I felt all of Griffin's anxiety, grief, guilt, happiness and longing as I took this journey with

A compelling and cerebral exploration of friendship, young love, OCD, grief, healthy relationships, damaged relationships, broken hearts, broken people and selfishness--all from the point of view of an endearing but fascinatingly unreliable narrator. A completely different read from Adam Silvera's first phenomenal book, MORE HAPPY THAN NOT, and yet just as powerful. Absolutely a 5-star read.

Friend: If you could go anywhere in time, past or future, where would you go, and why?

Me: I'd go to January 17, 2017 so I wouldn't have to wait to read History is All You Left Me.

I still haven't emotionally recovered from More Happy Than Not, I don't think I'm prepared for this.

DAYUM Adam, why you gotta go making me feel emotions I didn't even know existed?!?!

I can't say a lot as this release is still pretty far off but just let me say that this book tore me up into pieces (*wink*) and put me back together again. Honestly though, I couldn't have expected any less from the follow up to the masterpiece that was More Happy Than Not.

This book was so incredibly raw and emotional and, as seems to be the case with every Adam Silvera book, I legitimately learned some heavy lif

Honestly, it was such a struggle to get through this book. Just because from the very beginning we know so much. We know that Griffin is mourning, we know that Theo died in a tragic accident, we know that Griffin and Theo were broken up and that Theo was across the country with another boy at the time of his death. I could barely ready about 10 pages at a time before I was wiping away tears.

i will buy Anything Adam Silvera writes. I'd be honored to have his grocery lists, frankly. The Beckminavidera crew are SERIOUS pros. Some of the most talented debuts you will EVER read.

This was so, so good, even though it broke my heart into a zillion pieces the entire time I was reading it. Which isn't to say it isn't hopeful - it absolutely is - but Silvera so deftly depicts the pain of grieving for a loved one and, in the greater scheme, of rearranging the picture of your life when what you always thought was endgame is no longer a possibly, and it just squeezes your heart the entire time you read. On top of the central plot, which is really well told in non-linear fashion, ...more

UPDATE: So under a month left till this book releases! I am so happy that this book exists and I cannot stress enough that you all should pick this book up!

First of all, Soho Press has my regards and gratitude for granting me to read this book!

History Is All You Left Me is one of the best book I have ever read. Simply, the best book. I was engrossed by the minute I read the first chapter and I couldn't stop thinking about the book whenever I was doing anything.

After being the only person in the world who didn't flail all over MHTN, I was excited to try this new book.

Sadly, I didn't care for Griffin. I get that he was grieving, but there was just something about him that I couldn't connect to. Something that kept me from being 100% immersed in the story. I did enjoy the back and forth between the present and past chapters. I liked the overall story and the secondary characters and the ending.

I know with certainty that I will be in the minority, that th

Oh Adam Silvera how come you like to break my heart so much?

Silvera is such an amazing storyteller and it shines through in this story. Yes, as mentioned above, this story is heartbreaking, but it’s also so beautifully hopeful by the time you get to that last page. His portrayal of grieving for a loved one makes this incredibly emotional and you can’t help but feel for Griffin and the things he’s trying to sort out in his head.

The story itself is told non-linearly and it’s done so, so well. Th

Heart-wrenching and beautiful, HISTORY IS ALL YOU LEFT ME is a universal human story of loss and love that will grab ahold of your soul and shake you up in the very best possible ways. Dare to have your heart broken and healed through the powerful force of friendship and love.

I won't be forgetting Theo, Jackson, or Griffin. They're a part of me now.
Bravo, Adam!

When I started this book, I was but a nineteen year old girl. Now I am twenty eight. I am weathered, I have experienced so much between the pages of this book that it has physically aged me, but I don't really mind.

This book is hell. It will destroy you, but you won't be able to look away from the pages, and just when you're sure you can do nothing but cry for the rest of your life, it makes you laugh, then you laugh some more, then more, and you feel like it'll be okay.

So that's my review for

The thing about Adam Silvera prose is like - not to discount the subject of the book - it doesn't really matter what the book is about because the prose is that good. I would seriously read a book about changing a water filter if Silvera wrote it. Short but sweet review. If you loved MHTN, you'll love this book too. Get the book. Maybe get some tissues too. Read the book. Enjoy the book.

P.S. Bonus points for all the Harry Potter mentions.

P.S. Bonus points for condoms and safe sex conversations.

I had the utmost pleasure of meeting Adam Silvera at BEA this year, and also getting an early copy of his upcoming novel. I started it the same evening, and finished it the next day. This book is definitely one of my favourites of the year thus far (it may even be better than, dare I say it, More Happy Than Not. Although I feel this could be debated on various levels.)

From the very first sentence of the book I knew I was doomed, and from there it did an excellent job of making me compulsively fl

This is my first read of 2017 and I'm off to a fantastic start by already giving out a 5 star rating.

The book follows Griffin, who's ex-boyfriend Theo has passed away in a drowning accident. Throughout the book, he is grieving Theo's death and he struggles with his worsening OCD.

My favorite thing about this book is the author's writing. Within the first page, the author has included the title of the story into the text and it was done beautifully. History Is All You Left Me is such a fitting a

Where do I even start? Reading History is All You Left Me was one epic, emotional roller coaster ride. I was expecting to get my heart broken when I started the book - even Adam himself warned me that this book is sad! But I don't know whether I was ready for this much emotions, this much feels and especially the personal connection I was able to create with the book and the characters. It still baffles me how such a happy and vibrant person such as Adam Silvera can write a book which will make ...more

History Is All You Left Me is messy, but full of heart.

I'll be brief (ish): the simplicity in prose is captivating. Not juvenile per se but the ease to which each word felt handpicked; uncomplicated, effusive, and direct, speaks volumes to the quiet power this story has. That's what I'd class this as -- Quiet YA (but not in the traditional sense) -- where a lot happens in small pockets of moments. Yes, it's an arduously slow journey. The friendships aren't cookie cutter, the characterization is

I should note that out of the 140 ARCs I picked up from BEA, History Is All You Left Me is the one I chose to read first. Because, it’s Adam Silvera guys. And his writing is gold.

I'm starting to think Adam Silvera has this agenda to destroy my heart. And while i know everyone who has met him is like, 'Oh he's so nice and he's tall! And tall people can't be evil!' Which is just wrong. Because lots of tall people are super evil, I'm sure. I've never personally met one, but...

Look, none of that matters because HISTORY IS ALL YOU LEFT ME... this book is what matters. And it SO very much matters. On its face, it's a story about a boy who's lost his first love and best friend

This review is going to be a little bit of a mess, because my heart's a little bit of a mess after reading this tremendous novel. Bear with me.

HISTORY IS ALL YOU LEFT ME is a powerful book, filled with so much emotional honesty and intensity that I found myself frequently putting it down in order to catch my breath, and then unable to think about anything else until I picked it up again.
