Audiobooks on CDs are trickier to load to an iPod than an MP3-CD. Typically there are several CDs and the CD is not labeled. Sometimes, your iPod will connect to Gracenote and label the CD incorrectly. Below are our suggestions on how to import the CD and re-label the files so it is easier to navigate when played in your iPod. 1 Insert the CD, and wait for the tracks to appear in iTunes. DO NOT IMPORT CD yet… just display the tracks; it does not matter if the automatic lookup of track names is successful or not. 2 Select all of the CD’s tracks, and choose Join CD Tracks from the Advanced menu: ![]() Note: If the Join CD Tracks menu item is dimmed you may have imported the CD, or you need to re-sort the list by the track number; see Apple’s knowledgebase article iTunes: Join CD Tracks Command Is Dimmed for details. This will consolidate the many tracks on the CD into one, which will make it much easier to manage when the tracks are copied to your iPod. 3 Select Submit CD Track Names from the Advanced menu:
In the CD Info dialog that appears, fill out the information you know about the audiobook.
4 Click OK, and the information will be submitted. You will probably be prompted to Select CD Category, since the online database uses a different category for audio books. Choose “Spoken & Audio”, click OK. ![]() 5 You’ll get a dialog telling you it’s done, click OK. When the submission process is completed, all of the tracks on the CD should have the appropriate information attached to them. 6 Click the Import button (bottom right corner) to import this disc 7 When the import finishes, eject the CD. 8 Switch to your Library, and find the newly imported track. There should be only one. Right click on it and select Get Info: 9 Switch to the Options panel, and check both the Remember playback position and the Skip when shuffling checkboxes:
10 Repeat this process for the each CD in the audio book, until you have imported all of the CDs. 11 Default iTunes settings will automatically sync your new playlist to your iPod. If you have changed your settings, you will have to Click and Drag the audiobook files to your iPod icon. This will start the transfer of your audiobook to your iPod. After this process is finished, eject your iPod and enjoy! |

If Gracenote has labeled your CD incorrectly, there are a few options to fix this error. 1 The first option is to delete the cached information. WARNING: This will delete all the information you have received from Gracenote in the past and all the information you have manually entered. If you have ever labeled information through iTunes before, either with Gracenote or manually, please do not follow the first set of instructions unless you do not need the information labeled from previous imports. For more information please see: How iTunes remembers audio CDs saves information for the CD into the "CD Info.cidb" file. It's saved here:
If you delete this file, it will delete the information that was labeled to the disc. You will now see the information from the disc itself (Track 01, Track 02, etc): A better option, albeit time consuming, is joining the track names and editing the information yourself. Use the Transfer a CD to Your iPod section of the page to learn how to complete this process. |

If your MP3-CD is not playing in the correct order, it may be one two things: 1 Your player is on “shuffle”. This is a feature on many players to play music files at random. You will have to turn off this feature in order for the audiobook to play in the correct order. 2 Some of the earlier MP3-CDs were labeled poorly. For Example, the first chapter was labeled as Chapter One or Chapter 1. This will need to be fixed for them to load correctly.

iTunes will connect to Gracenote to automatically label the CD. If Gracenote cannot find an exact match, it will apply the information of a similar match. First delete the original file. Then, in iTunes select Edit, Preferences, under the General Tab unclick the option: Automatically retrieve CD track names from Internet. Re-download the audiobook. ![]() ![]() |

1 You will first have to transfer files from the MP3-CD to your computer. Insert MP3-CD into the CD drive. In the window that automatically pops up select Open folder to view files using Windows Explorer.*
2 Create a new folder on your desktop. Name this folder the title of the audiobook. 3 Select all the files with the extension .mp3 and drag them to the new folder you just created on your desktop. 4 Open Windows Media Player. Open the folder on the desktop with the transferred files. Select the files with an extension of .mp3 once more, only this time, drag them to the open Windows Media Player window. This will start the transfer of these files into the Windows Media Player program. 5 “Sync” the files to your player and enjoy! We Recommend: If you have software installed on your computer that came with your MP3-Player, insert the MP3-CD into your computer’s CD drive. When the automatic window pops up, select the installed program. |
