Deus Ex: Mankind Divided goes live-action in intense, cinematic trailer

There's no actual game footage to be seen in Deus Ex: Mankind Divided's newest trailer. Instead, Eidos Montreal has crafted a live-action short film to depict the upcoming game's harrowing, war-torn world. Watch "The Mechanical Apartheid" above for a cinematic look into Mankind Divided's dark, depressing setting. The four-minute prologue reveals the state of the world in 2027, following the uprising of mechanically augmented humans. With the convergence of technology and humanity comes a lot of violence and discrimination, culminating in the Human Restoration Act, a move to keep the "non-Augs" and the "Augs" separate. Players will become involved in that conflict when Mankind Divided launches this summer. Returning star Adam Jensen has some mechanical augmentations of his own, getting...

Mega Man gets a new, not-quite-improved look in upcoming animated series

In a press release, executive producer Man of Action Entertainment (Ben 10, Ultimate Spider-Man) and distributors DHX Media and Dentsu Entertainment presented a first look at the upcoming Mega Man cartoon, set to debut in 2017, along with a handful of story details. The series will star a young and otherwise normal robot named Aki Light with a secret power: He can become Mega Man, "the world's first robot super-hero." Set in Silicon City, the series showcases Aki's struggle to maintain his superheroic duties on top of his everyday life. He'll be joined by familiar characters like Rush, along with newcomers with names like Mega Mini. Dentsu Entertainment and DHX are targeting the elementary school demographic with the new Mega Man show, which is debuting in time for the character's...

Absolver looks like guilt-free martial arts goodness from ex-Ubisoft members

Devolver Digital has unveiled Absolver, the publisher's latest stylish action project that's heading to PlayStation 4, Windows PC and Xbox One next year. The game is set to bring martial arts flow to the online multiplayer space, as seen in the trailer above. Absolver is the first title from indie developer Sloclap, a Parisian studio comprised of designers whose credits include Watch Dogs and the Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon series. Absolver doesn't seem to have much in common with either of those games, though; instead, it's set in the fantastical Adal Empire, where masked fighters must fight to prove their worth and earn their survival. There's more to come about Absolver at this year's E3 event, Devolver Digital said in a press release. Those looking forward to the melee-focused...

Sony has sold more than 40 million PlayStation 4 units worldwide

Sony announced today that it has sold more than 40 million PlayStation 4 units as of May 22, continuing to make it the fastest-selling console in the company's history. The data, which was collected between Nov. 15, 2013, and May 22, 2016, also pointed out that software sales for the PS4 have remained strong, with more than 270.9 million copies sold through retail stores and the PlayStation Network. A corporate forecast released a couple of days ago estimated that an additional 20 million units would be sold worldwide in Sony's current fiscal year, which runs from April 1, 2016, through March 31, 2017. Sony Interactive Entertainment president Andrew House said the main reason the PS4 continues to sell as well as it has is because of the exclusive and expansive gaming content offered...

Shock announcements aren't EA's style

Electronic Arts at E3: A Viewer's Guide

EA still plans the usual hourlong news conference, moving it to Sunday from its traditional Monday morning slot, and most of that will inform what is seen later in the week. Still, it is not this publisher's style to spring surprises from Los Angeles. The last real jaw-ropper was when it announced EA Sports UFC in 2012. EA traffics in known quantities and, recently, occasional teases like what was seen with Mass Effect and Battlefront in 2014. Here's what to expect from Electronic Arts at E3 2016. WHAT WE'LL DEFINITELY SEE BATTLEFIELD 1 After years of blue-sky ruminating from casual observers, at last a major military shooter is taking on World War I, and it is EA's Battlefield. Announced just two weeks ago, the "likes" given to its trailer on YouTube were enough...

All Minecraft Console Editions get free Battle minigame next month

Next month the console versions of Minecraft are getting a major free update: Battle, the first of many minigames that Microsoft says will be coming to the popular title. In Battle, players will be dropped into a pre-created map and given a few seconds to grab a weapon from a chest before taking on the other players in a deathmatch. It is a game mode, like future minigames, inspired by some of the things players are already doing on their own. But Battle, which is coming to all PlayStation, Xbox and Wii U versions of Minecraft, comes with the infrastructure to quickly start a competitive game for up to eight players on these pre-created maps with timers, a waiting room and randomly generated resources. The minigame also supports split-screen for up to four players. While the game...

Dishonored novels, comics will bridge the gap before the sequel hits

Bethesda Softworks announced that the world of Dishonored will soon receive its own comic and novel tie-ins. The first issue of the four-part comic series will arrive Aug. 3, according to Bethesda, with two more issues coming in September before the series concludes in October. The full collection will come to bookstores Nov. 29. The comics will depict assassin Corvo Attano's attempt to find a successor, 12 years after his adventure in Dishonored wrapped. These events will take place before the events of Dishonored 2, the upcoming sequel starring a grown-up Emily Kaldwin, who first appeared as a child in Dishonored. But Dishonored — The...

Sources: Xbox One getting huge upgrade in 2017, slim model later this year

Microsoft has two new Xbox consoles on the horizon, according to reports on Kotaku that Polygon has corroborated with its own sources. Those sources also told Polygon that one of those new consoles will be over four times more powerful than the current Xbox One and that the announcement at E3 was triggered by, among other things, a faster-than-expected timeline for Sony’s own upgraded PlayStation 4. The other console, a slimmed-down version of the current hardware, will also be getting a redesigned controller. The latter is scheduled to be revealed at E3 or at an event shortly before, as plans are currently in discussion. Tom Warren at Polygon sister site The Verge reports that the console will be "40 percent smaller than the current model and will likely include 4K support," which...

For those without a Steam account, an iPhone or an iPad, Hatoful Boyfriend recently made its way onto PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita as well. A sequel, Holiday Star, launched on all of these platforms in 2015; it tells new side stories starring the avian characters. Read our review to find out just if and...

"We're pleased to report that our work on that front is done, and [that Lord Saladin] has been granted clearance to set up shop at his usual haunt in the Tower," said Bungie in a blog post. This week's Iron Banner will run until the next weekly reset, which will occur at 5 a.m ET on Tuesday, May 31.
