This series of videos demonstrates how to use the Cypress PSoC 4 family and associated development kits. This lesson introduces the class and briefly covers the devices, kits, and web site. Each lesson teaches you how to use a specific feature of the device. The videos start with fundamental skills and then build to more complex concepts.

Hello. My name is Alan Hawse. I am Vice President of Technical Staff for Solutions and Software at Cypress Semiconductor. Welcome to the first in a series short lessons that I wrote to teach you all of the fundamental skills that will enable you to get the most out PSoC. This video series is the result of the many emails that you have sent me at
[email protected] asking for information about specific aspects of PSoC. I encourage you to keep doing that as I make adjustments to what I am teaching based on your feedback.
One of my job responsibilites is the Cypress Academy. This is a series of classes on using Cypress devices – including PSoC. The most important of which is called PSoC 101. These videos are based on the learning concepts that I developed in that class.
These videos will cover all the aspects of the PSoC device including the ARM CPU, I/O pins, the serial communication system function of UART, I2C and SPI, digital functions like timers, counters and PWMs, plus CapSense and the use of low power modes. Most of the lessons are short so you learn a lot very quickly.
All the lessons use a Pioneer kit, which you can purchase from the Cypress online store or [our excellent distribution partner Future] [ your favorite catalog site Mouser and Digikey]. There are actually 4 Pioneer kits that you can use– the CY8CKIT-042, 044, 046 and 042-ble.
I am using the 042 Kit in my lessons and the only difference you’ll notice with the other kits is the pin selections for the LEDs and so on. At a fundamental level these devices behave the same way and your learning will easily transfer between them.
We have a web page at www.cypress.com/psoc101 that lists all the pin settings you’ll need, so be sure to bookmark that address. In fact this site contains all of the content for this class.
In the next lesson we will get started by driving IOs pins from your FW.
As always you are welcome to email me at
[email protected] with your comments, suggestions, criticisms and questions.
