AliExpress Ad Causing Plug-in errors, slow comments, & unresponsive Reddit pages by KavensWorld in bugs

[–]redtaboo[A] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey there!

We're very sorry this is happening, we've blocked that company through all of our ad partners yet they are somehow still getting through. :(

Our ads team is digging in to see if they can find those ads and block them more completely. Thank you for the report and for your patience!

Why does this reddit post show as having 146,676 comments? by Rev_Dragon in help

[–]redtaboo[A] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The comments actually aren't there even when I look -- so, not spam filtered/removed. My guess is that there was a bot war in that thread that ended up breaking the site (as /u/13steinj alludes to below), so all the comments ended up completely deleted in order to fix things.

Why does the email verification link verify whoever is logged in, rather than the account that generated it? by [deleted] in help

Are you sure? I just tried to reproduce this and received an error:

In the future though, if you think you've found a security issue please email us via securityATreddit.com rather than posting publicly.

Thanks so much for this, I'll reach out to you privately to discuss this a bit more.

Thank you very much for everything you've done for the site. You were one of the first mods and really did a lot for the site. I personally remember you helping me our when I was a complete n00b and will always appreciate that. <3

Shouldn't users receive a ban notification from a subreddit they participate in if a moderator they blocked banned them? by Zsilfen in ModSupport

[–]redtaboo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll see if that's an option for sure -- I think this may be somewhat of an edge case though, since it requires the user to have blocked the moderator for the message not to have gone through which I think is fairly rare.

[–]redtaboo[A] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

You're seeing that information because you're a moderator of that subreddit, both legacy and new modmail send ban messages as the subreddit from a users perspective. Mods see the actual username of the banning moderator.

Heya! Thanks for pointing this out, it does appear to be a bug. Sorry for the confusion and trouble, we'll look into fixing this for the future.

Moderators need to be kept in check by Jamesfarrow1 in ideasfortheadmins

I've removed this post as it doesn't follow the rules in the sidebar, and I've removed your most recent comments as well as they are decidedly uncivil. This isn't the space to complain about moderators, if you are upset about your ban your best bet is to (politely!) respond to your ban message and explain that you are sorry and why you won't break their rules again. This only works if you are sincere though.

Please read the sidebars of communities and lurk a bit before contributing, every subreddit has it's own set of rules and ethos. Most subreddits aren't going to be okay with random personal insults like I'm seeing here, and many will ban or warn you for behaving in this manner.

We'll be on the look out for retaliation at any point in the process and will take that into consideration when making our decisions.

Sorry for the late reply, I had a few other things that took up my attention for bit. :(

One of the things we wanted to be sure of is that we allowed for joke subreddits that are legitimate jokes. That's part of why we allowed for subjectivity in making judgement calls on our part. ")

We have a policy about that coming out in the near future. It's written up, but involves a couple steps on our end before making it public and enacting it.

Thanks for your patience! :)

If that's the case the mod in question would likely easily have links to point to that they aren't actually inactive, they would be active in discussions and modmail and commenting in the subreddit. Wanting to have light moderation is not the same as completely ignoring a subreddit. This type of case is exactly why we made the process somewhat onerous and are leaving it open to our own judgement. :)

This is a process for current moderators, if you have concerns about someone breaking sitewide rules you should message us via modmail at /r/reddit.com.

thanks. :(

I think this means it was either a different deploy than the one we rolled back or possibly something else entirely.

We're still digging into it, I'm very sorry for all the trouble!
