r/IdeasForTheAdmins is a user-run subreddit; while we hope some of the admins read our subreddit for ideas, we the mods and most participants here are just normal everyday users, like you. This means we can't actually change how reddit works (functionally). Telling us that you dislike the new profiles isn't very useful, because we can't do anything about it.
What you can do is tell the admins in one of their official forums to voice feedback. That means posting and voting in the next r/announcements thread (here's the previous one), and in the mean time, probably using r/beta (ed: if anyone knows of a better place for this, let me know). "I don't like this" is a useful thing for the admins to hear, but it's not a useful thing to have here; we'll be removing these posts to keep it clear for more concrete ideas on how to change the site.
Thanks!
So last night, I broke my phone, and that had my 2FA authenticator on it. I was going to change my password to try and get the authenticator on my phone once again, and when I did, I unknowingly locked myself out of my main account ( u/girlgamer2890 ) and now I can't get back in no matter what I try. I don't really like how you can't disable 2FA through email (like they have for discord or steam) if you're unable to use the device with your authenticator on it. It just seems like poor design to me. I really wish the admins would fix this.
Pretty sure I have 1 or more people slavishly following me (to send me mocking hate mail), but I've blocked them, so I see the number of replies to my comments over my inbox icon, but my inbox is empty.
If there's an option to turn off seeing replies posted to my inbox from people I've blocked, I'm unaware of it, but that doesn't mean it doesn't already exist.
Now that you don't need Gold to create a snoovatar, doesn't it make sense to add the "View/edit my snoovatar" button on the new user page as well? It would be more convenient then having to type "reddit.com/user/USERNAME/snoo" every time you want to edit your snoovatar, unless I'm missing something here.
When the user clicks on the login button, the pop-up window does not get focus.
It's a bit obnoxious when you instinctively click "Tab" to get in the login username field, and instead you just navigate through the page on the background.
A few years ago, support was to added markdown to automatically link subreddits and usernames that were missing the initial slash, so, for example, r/ideasfortheadmins would work just like /r/ideasfortheadmins.
Please consider doing the same for subreddits and usernames that start with capital letters (e.g. R/ideasfortheadmins), since it's a challenge for some mobile users to remember to make that first letter lower-case.
Perhaps /r/foundthemobileuser would be opposed to this idea, but sometimes sacrifices must be made in the name of progress.
The difference may seem minor here but I think it’s an important distinction.
The current approach to quarantine breaks mobile and third party apps, makes it difficult for those who do not share reddit’s ideological opposition to these subs to find appropriate communities for their views.
If quarantines were instead applied more like nsfw, globally bypassable and more informative than suppressive I think it would achieve the same expressed goals while being much less offensive to those who believe in reddit’s original model
There is a "Block Subreddit" button, but it doesn't work. Trolls who happen to also be moderators can harass users with impunity by contacting them through the subreddit modmail system. Sort of defeats the purpose of having a Block Subreddit button, and of having rules against harassment.
This should make the ranking less sensitive to how traffic changes with respect to time of day.
Let Mods setup their own submissions page, so that if your submission doesn't meet a certain standard it actually stops you from posting until you've done the right thing.
It really sucks to post a thread and have it be deleted because you didn't put a tag and then try to post it again and being blocked for 10 minutes because you've just posted.
Just, don't let me post it the first time, put a red text with an asterisk THIS SUBS REQUIRE A TAG BEFORE POSTING
EDIT: you are doing that too much. try again in 5 minutes. of for fuck' sake…
Really bizarre suggestion, I know. But hear me out.
When moderators violate sitewide rules, hold them accountable and protect the users that they violated sitewide rules to attack.
Really weird suggestion, right?
Here's another one: When they do that, don't compound their violation with your own.
Edit: The malice and desperation of the responses to this thread vindicates it pretty strongly. Nobody would act this way out of mere disagreement. Reddit is infested with malicious vermin who exploit the flaws in question and don't want them corrected. I expected nothing better out of a site that has let things go this far, but I will never stop arguing to correct this site's problems.
I just started using new Reddit to just use one multireddit for every sub I frequent instead of visiting them individually. Soundcloud songs, youtube videos, vreddit clips, and gifs get embedded into new Reddit, and I think it'd be a useful feature to add a floating media player so you can play those things and keep scrolling. I'd probably put it on either side where all the wasted space is. Thoughts?
So I was in a subchat, and this one guy kept calling me a very offensive name, So could we add a feature where you could block someone on the chat?
Thank you for your time - SuperPrower
Allow users to create subreddit “folders” that behave the same way your home feed does, just with only specific posts. Maybe you can already do that, but I just haven’t found it, or maybe it’s on the web-based reddit client, either way I haven’t seen one so far.
Rank them on how long they have been posting, average feedback, special knowledge in particular areas such as science and medicine. It need not be apparent to the typical user, but perhaps you could better employ the braintrust of your countless users to greater purpose. Give their posts greater prominence and make everyone smarter.
What I’m thinking is a convenient way to filter what kind of content users would be looking for
For example:
content:text Would display posts with only text
content:image Would display posts with images attached
content:gif Would display posts with GIFs attached
content:video Would display posts with videos attached
Can we get an option within the subreddit settings tab to allow votes to count on submissions/comments only if the user has commented within the relevant thread?
For many smaller subreddits this type of option could be very helpful in discouraging brigading and allowing the actual subreddit users the ability to continue to vote and be counted. Plus it could encourage more quiet/lurking users to participate within the subreddit.
Thanks for listening
Edit: So are the downvotes signifying that this is a bad idea? Or is it an idea that ticks off users who like to vote manipulate? Pretty interesting stuff. Keep it coming!
Downvoting is too inexpensive compared to posting. A person who makes a post has to invest their time in writing the post, as trivial as some posts are (just one word). But a person who downvotes doesn't have to do anything but click on an arrow.
So allowing down votes only to those posters who have posted something previously in the thread forces downvoters to have skin in the game. Even if all the downvoter was forced to do was hit the reply button and type in "no" before downvoting I suspect we would still see a lot less downvoting because most of them wouldn't waste their time.
I would love if there was a way to export your saved posts on reddit, either in link format or the actual posts, as I often switch accounts and would love if it was a physical copy on my desktop.
Can I fucking opt out of this shit? I vote all the time, every time. You fucks didn't help last time and fucked us bad.
Why the button in 'messages' is called 'Save' instead of 'Send'? You can get used to it, but it's kind of strange and when I clicked it for the first time I wasn't sure if it was sent actually or just saved.
A colour-coded system would help people avoid arguing/time-wasting with fake accounts and professional trolls/manipulation agents, and make their campaigns more transparent.
Howdy - When getting a new device, it's not obvious (if it's possible at all) how to get the existing QR code up to register another authenticator. Would be great to be able to optionally either pull up the existing barcode or re-seed if you prefer.
