Gaming isn’t just for guys
Girls are gamers, too. Through The Media School, IU introduced the first-ever, girls-only game development summer camp. Whether they're interested in design or computer coding, the camp encouraged teen girls to consider careers in game design and development—professions generally dominated by men. Students created their own 2-D and 3-D games, told stories, and designed original worlds and characters.

The power of a story
When Annie Brackemyre applied for “Reporting on HIV/AIDS in Africa” through The Media School, she thought it would be a great way to top off her IU career before graduation. Little did she know her time in Uganda would change her life. Along with nine other journalism students interning for a newspaper in Kampala, Uganda, Annie had one mission—to tell the stories of people living with HIV/AIDS with integrity and respect.

Tech experience for the future
Even though students interact with technology today more than ever before, there are barriers—both real and imagined—that keep most from understanding how technologies work. The School of Informatics and Computing Summer Camp is breaking down those barriers. More than 80 high school students had the opportunity to learn about the latest trends in web design, networking, Big Data, gaming, and e-textiles at the camp this year.
