    My 3 most promising students are all first generation college students. All 3 say they can't afford to get a PhD because their families can't afford for them to be out of the labor force for 6 years.

    Devah Pager’s scholarship was foundational to my understanding of data and to this day informs the work I do ⁦⁩. I devastated to learn of her passing. Rest in Power Devah, you are gone but never forgotten.

    Today mourns the loss of Joyce Fienberg, one of the fatalities in yesterday's Tree of Life synagogue attack. Joyce was the widow of Steve Fienberg and a treasured member of the family for almost 40 years. She was much loved and will be deeply missed.

    Happy 68th birthday to my first ever research assistant! (13th in human years.) Tobias joined my 'lab' back when I was a first-year graduate student (spot the Nokia candybar phone, 9.0, and combo VHS/DVD TV). He's been an essential member of the team ever since. 🐱
