    Nike shows Maryam Mirzakhani, first woman to ever win the Fields medal in mathematics in a hijab. She did not wear hijab since she left Iran. She only wore it when she was forced to do so. must feel so proud, betraying her memory by celebrating her oppression.

    Phenomenal thread! One of the things I always find amusing is how Haredim mock a scientific approach to studying Judaism as they talk on their cell phones. One of the the things I always admire are Orthodox Jews who are open to using these tools.

    On the things we think we know, the stories we tell ourselves, and the serendipitous acquisition of new knowledge: a thread.

    Exactly. Jews don’t care about her opinions regarding Israel. Jews care about her using anti-Semitic tropes to push her agenda. She and her “progressive” buddies pose no threat to Israel. They pose a threat to US Jews!

    This and numerous other media stories mischaracterize controversy as being "about ." That wrong -- it's not about this or that policy. Rather, it's about the legitimacy of ' support for Israel. There's a big difference.
