s92 of the Constitution makes it clear that the Province has exclusive jurisdiction over municipalities. It’s why we’re appealing the ruling and will be introducing legislation to invoke s33 to deliver on our commitment of smaller, more effective government.

We’re taking a stand. Canada’s Constitution makes it clear that the province has exclusive responsibility over municipalities. If you want to make new laws in Ontario – or in Canada – you first must seek a mandate from the people.

We will immediately recall Ontario’s Legislature and invoke Section 33 of the Constitution to ensure the Better Local Government Act is preserved in time for the October 22 Municipal Election. We will also immediately appeal today's decision to the Ontario Court of Appeal.

I've heard from many businesses burdened by unnecessary red tape introduced by the Liberals, which imposed significant costs and stifled economic growth. Ontario is open for business, and we're going to listen to businesses to come up with a plan to help them build and grow.

Under the Liberals, the number of regulatory requirements in Ontario grew to 380,000+. We will consult with businesses across the province to learn how we can reduce the burden of government red tape and unleash the full potential of our economy. Ontario is open for business!
