    This is why software/services need to be formally recognised as a research output and be given significant weighting (through the REF or equivalent)

    3. There are NO FUNDING STREAMS for work like ours. I fight + win. But I am UNUSUAL. There are lots of funding streams to turn data and clinical/epidemiology skills into BORING PAPERS read by NOBODY. Want to build a tool for 80,000 users with the same skills and data? NO FUNDING.

    This is a fascinating result, with examples using data from Ag1000G.

    My latest preprint on estimating effective population sizes from soft selective sweeps. Turns out you just need to count the number of independent origins of a recurrent mutation, & calculate mutant frequency in population — doesn't need knowledge of strength of selection or age!
