    I read Feynman's lectures in high school (mechanics, electricity, maybe 2/3 of the whole stuff) / undergrad (remaining bits like quantum ED), and "Surely you're joking" at about the same time... but this is the first time I hear his voice, actually.

    That's what I usually tell editors upfront -- I will do a thorough review once, and will at best only check that my comments were addressed if I get asked for a second review. I will definitely decline a third review; I am not there to co-write a paper and get zero attribution.

    Less radical option: limit referees to one shot at the paper. Set expectations that R&R requests will involve if...then statements making the future transparent: e.g., "if the results are robust to adding controls for x, y, z, the revision will be accepted."

    Statistically, machine learning has poor modeling practices which should limit generalizability. It doesn't. Why? For tasks like image recognition, all humans on the ML team understand ground truth; in healthcare/science tasks, it won't be the same. We can expect lots of failure.

    I have seen Europeans yawn at projects like this saying, “We’ve been doing this for 30 years with registers of 10M people and full family trees and detailed neighborhood/community data.” This is just to say, the U.S. is ~30 years behind in data and methods.

    I just posted cleaned, certified, county-level election results from the Nov 2018 midterms on dataverse. There's results for every governor, Senate, and US House race in nation-wide files. So far there's 48 states available (looking at you KS and WV...)

    has these on Route K south of town. Not only it is a painted that is like 6 inches wide with a steep shoulder drop, but it also separating from the car traffic by a rumble strip that pretty much throws you off your bike if you go faster than 3 mph.

    The in for 2018? The “Murderstrip”; plain painted bicycle lanes on high-speed and/or dangerous roads.
