    . gave me an incredible gift that moved me beyond words. I had no idea that appearing on the gala concert would be my son, Daniel, who had written a piece in my honor. Then he walked onstage and conducted the orchestra! I couldn't have felt prouder or more loved.

    I am of course very disappointed, as I know how much effort has gone into the many activities that are planned in Detroit in the coming weeks. My cardiologists have indicated that this procedure should ensure that I will be able to conduct for many years to come. ❤️

    Due to a surgery scheduled for next week, Music Director must regrettably withdraw from his upcoming dates conducting the DSO this May and June. Ticketholders: please check your email for communications from the DSO.

    Due to bypass surgery scheduled for next week, I regrettably must withdraw from conducting engagements in May and June. This is particularly sad as I will not be able to lead the final 3 subscription concerts that mark the end of my tenure as music director.
