    Big retweet at this, especially @ Hayan Charara - I teach his work often and people tend to have this "omg why have I not read this person???" reaction. Hayan paved the way for many Arab-American poets/Arab poets writing in english

    All to say, I think it's too much for folks of *insert privilege* to ask "think before you speak" & we can't rely on them to give intellectual labor to deconstructing something that's so outside of themselves. I dont have a solution, but I think this cluelessness is v telling

    & don't get me started on how we live in a reality where a simple 14 word poem by a Palestinian poet was so vastly misunderstood by (again primarily white + americans) in the retweets and comments....

    Like the other day I was told "it must be hard being Palestinian in America" by someone I interact with semi-regularly (by circumstance & not choice) and I was like... How do I even respond to that? Bc I dont think you wanna hear the truth.

    I've tweeted about this before @ genuine apathy being one of several factors fueling systemic misinformation on things like Palestine (& so much more tbh), but damn, the past few days have been filled with so much aggressive white cluelessness.

    Something I've lived my whole life that was reconfirmed with certain comments on my recent semi-viral tweet + interactions with various (white) Americans on "the middle east" is that some people in this country really live in a whole different reality of cluelessness.
