    I've always liked to think of לעבדה as "to serve it", parallel to how we view the verb for say the temple service. At least when I'm feeling sentimental & environmental. Relatedly: does "to protect and serve" come from here?

    It's a good lesson in general - having the relative security to be "open to nuance" or hold "multiple narratives" is itself a privilege. Romney can agonize, but it's from safety - as part of a place of power that is actively making life harder and more dangerous for many people.

    I think it's clear that Mitt Romney has no illusions about Donald Trump. And, unlike some of his (former) colleagues, he wants us to know that he knows, and that it really bothers him. But if that's where it ends, it would be ending in "heavy" heart territory.

    In contemporary political terms, the first category is someone who lives in their own cable news/facebook feed bubble. The last category is Paul Ryan, who knows he is lying but pushes forward anyway. The middle category is more interesting.
