How many activities are reasonable to accomplish in one day?

Most attendees are able to comfortably participate in two to four activities each day. This allows sufficient time in between activities to move from one location to the next, get water or food, change clothes, etc.

Is there time for me to get from one activity to the next if I schedule back-to-back?

Yes! We have allowed sufficient time with each activity so you can participate in activities that you schedule back-to-back.

Are there limits on any of the sessions?

For paddleboarding, mountain biking, kayaking, and rock climbing, each participant is initially limited to one session until all participants have had an opportunity to register and build their calendars. Once we reach that point, we will release any remaining paddleboarding, mountain biking, kayaking, and rock climbing sessions and allow for people to add more than one session to their calendar. All other activities and educational experiences are unlimited.

Why do you have a size limit for some of the sessions?

We have limited the size of some of the sessions to give you a boutique experience. The instructor/participant ratio has been carefully selected to provide you the best learning opportunity/experience possible.

Several of the sessions say they have limited capacity. If I add a session to my schedule, does this mean that I am guaranteed a place for that session?

Yes, if you can add a session to your schedule, you are confirmed. The scheduling platform will make it clear when the classes are filling (at 75% of capacity) and already full.

Can sessions be scheduled that overlap?

Please make sure the sessions you select do not overlap with each other. It’s important to only register for sessions you plan to attend so that the limited class size can be made available to as many as possible!

Am I able to change a session I have signed up for?

Yes! If you would like to change a session (that is still open and has space) and/or are not able to attend one of the sessions you signed up for, please cancel on the Sched app or come to the REI Outessa Summit headquarters tent (when you are at the REI Outessa Summit) and we will update for you.

Do I need to hit a “save” button after I have selected the sessions I want to participate in?

No. The sessions are automatically saved to your calendar on Sched after you select each one.

What options do I have with the schedule of sessions I have created?

When you are in your schedule on Sched, you can print it, email it to yourself or a friend, or download it. As we get closer to the event, you’ll be able to access it in an app on your phone.

Is general on-site camping available?

We love novices! That’s a big part of why Outessa was created; it’s meant to provide women with the opportunity to try new things and open the outdoors to them in new ways.

Will there be transportation provided to get to events, e.g., the rock climbing and kayaking at Silver Lake?

Yes, we will be providing shuttle service from Kirkwood Resort to/from any off-site activities. Those include rock climbing, paddleboarding, and kayaking.

What are lodging options?

Lodging options at Outessa are varied and include Forest Service campgrounds, the REI Signature Camps, resort accommodations, and area lodges, cabins, and B&B’s. Lodging is not included with the REI Outessa Summit registration and does need to be purchased or reserved separately. No lodging will be reserved for you and it is recommended that you book your lodging soon to get your first choice for the weekend. Several off-site locations are close, but you will need to provide your own transportation to the REI Outessa Summit each day.

How do I reserve a REI Signature Camp or at Camp Outessa?

Campsites are reserved on a first-come, first-served basis and are booked through the same link used to register for the event.

Is general on-site camping available?

General camping is available in Camp Outessa and is an additional purchase on top of the REI Outessa Summit registration (not available in all locations). You will be given your camping wristband at check-in in order to gain access to Camp Outessa. You are responsible for bringing all the camping supplies that you need. Provided is a camping space, bathrooms, showers, and potable water.

Are the bathrooms, showers and sinks portable or in a building?

All locations have both indoor and portable bathrooms and sinks. All showers used for camping will be in portable shower trailers.

Will camping passes be available to purchase on site?

Yes, as long as they haven’t sold out. Don’t assume they will be available.

Will assistance be provided to set up my tent?

Yes! If you decide to camp on your own, Big Agnes wants to help make the start of your camping experience even better by helping you set up your tent. Whether it’s your first time, third time, or even tenth, Big Agnes wants to lend you a hand, and of course it’s complimentary. Any tent, any brand. What is the price for the REI Signature Camp?

The price for the REI Signature Camp is $500 for 2 people, so bring a friend and split the cost!

If I register for the REI Outessa as just myself, will you pair me with another participant for the 2 person camping?

When you purchase the “REI Signature Camp for 2” option, you will have the entire site that is set up for 2 people. It’s up to you if you choose to find a partner for the second half of the tent or not. If you would like, we can try to help pair you up with someone that is also traveling solo and looking to share a REI Signature Camp. We need permission from both, however, before we will work to make introductions.

What makes the REI Signature Camp different?

Tent Setup: Spacious and deluxe tents fully outfitted with cots, sleeping pads, floor coverings, lighting, and an assortment of REI’s most comfy camp furniture and fun extras.
Camp Host: Your camp will be set up when you arrive.
Bath Setup: Bathrooms and showers are available.
Gear: All the great gear you’d find in an REI store for you to experience firsthand, like Goal Zero lanterns & charging stations, ENO hammocks and much more
Sleeping bag not included, please bring your own

Where do we park when camping and how far away is parking from the campsites?

Cars are able to park for free while at the event.
Kirkwood: You’ll be directed to a parking area that is approximately ¼ mile from the REI Signature Camp
Powder Mountain: Cars will park in the Timberline Lodge parking lot, 1 mile from the REI Signature Camp and Camp Outessa.
Drop off of camping gear allowed near Camp Outessa from 3pm-6pm on Thursday, September 8th. Drop-off only, 10-minute limit.
Pick up of camping gear allowed 3pm-6pm on Sunday, September 11th. Please have gear packed and ready to load prior to driving up to the Camp Outessa lot.
Shuttles will run from the Timberline Lodge parking lot to the base of the Sky Lodge and Camp Outessa daily
In the spirit of Outessa, consider walking from the Timberline Lodge lot to the Sky Lodge or to Camp Outessa, a distance of 1 mile.

If I sign up for a REI Signature Camp, can I request a roommate if my gal pals are coming too or do I get assigned when I arrive?

If you choose the REI Signature Camp, you’ll have an amazing camp waiting for you just steps away from the REI Outessa Summit action. And booking the REI Signature Camp means that it’s all yours, whether you wish to share it with a friend or keep it all to yourself. It’s a very comfortable tent and camp set up for two, all you need to do is bring your personal items and a sleeping bag.

If I don't sign up for the signature camp experience, would I be expected to bring all my own equipment?

The REI Signature Camp is just one of many choices, although it is in a wonderful close location, is all-inclusive (except for the sleeping bag), is created using excellent gear, and even comes with a camp host! What should I wear?

The REI Outessa Summit is held at high elevations (7800’+), so come prepared for changing mountain weather and possible low temperatures. Mountain weather can bring a little of everything all in one day.

Clothing should include:
• Summer active wear clothing and footwear
• Personal clothing or equipment of choice for your activities
• Casual clothes and post-activity footwear
• Rain gear
• Warm clothing for cool and/or wet weather
• Summer hat, warm hat, light gloves

Will equipment such as mountain bikes or climbing gear be provided?

Yes, all equipment needed for the various activities will be provided whether it’s for mountain biking, rock climbing, paddleboarding, flat water kayaking, etc. You are certainly welcome to bring your own gear as some people may be more comfortable using gear that is theirs and the “perfect fit”. However, the REI Outessa Summit was created to allow people that don’t own any gear to have an opportunity to “Open the Outdoors” and discover new ways to experience outdoor recreation.

Are pets allowed?

We are pet lovers but are not allowed to have pets at these locations. Sorry!

What is the minimum age limit?

Outessa welcomes females 16 and over. A parent or legal guardian (registered for Outessa) must accompany attendees under the age of 18.

Can I bring my family with me?

The choice is up to each participant but Outessa is designed for each woman to take time for themselves and achieve their goals during the weekend. If you decide to bring a young female adult, please make sure they are over the age of 16. If they are under the age of 18 they must be accompanied by an adult or legal guardian.

Is the food and meals vegan friendly?

Yes, the included meals are vegan-friendly. When you go through the registration process, you are asked whether you have any dietary restrictions or preferences at which point you would be able to indicate vegan. The chefs in each location are really excited about this event and the opportunity to get creative with the meals which includes highlighting any area specialties, sourcing from local producers, and nutritional health.

Can I participate if I am pregnant?

While we would love to have you join us at the REI Outessa Summit, the decision to participate should be one between you and your doctor. There are a variety of activities ranging in duration, challenge, and difficulty, many of which could be very appropriate should you be cleared to participate. What a wonderful way to prepare for the next generation of outdoor enthusiasts!

Will there be cell coverage and/or wifi at the Summit locations?

Cell coverage and wifi is limited so make sure and download the Sched app prior to arrival so you are able to reference your schedule while at the event. You can either download the Mobile Web App or the native app from Apple’s App Store or Google’s Play Store (available the first part of June).

When do I need to arrive/depart?

The REI Outessa Summit is all day Friday starting at 8:00 a.m. and finishing around 5:00 p.m. on Sunday. To take full advantage of all activities and educational experiences at the REI Outessa Summit, we recommend that you arrive on Thursday and stay through the close on Sunday at 5pm. The REI Signature Camps in Kirkwood and Powder Mountain and Camp Outessa at Powder Mountain will open starting Thursday at 3pm and close Sunday at 6pm.

Do these events accommodate trans women?

Like REI, Outessa is an environment that welcomes all. Inclusion is a core value and non-discrimination a priority. When we say this is a gathering open to all, we mean all. LGBTQ women, transgender women, genderqueer and nonbinary— all are invited to join the fun in an environment of acceptance and support.

Are there any shuttles or rideshare opportunities between the airport and the REI Outessa Summit location?

No shuttles will be available between the various airports and the REI Outessa Summit location.
