NEW PRODUCT – Pimoroni Pan-Tilt HAT for Raspberry Pi - without pan-tilt module

The Pan-Tilt HAT from +Pimoroni lets you mount and control a pan-tilt module right on top of your Raspberry Pi. The HAT and its on-board microcontroller let you independently drive the two servos (pan and tilt), as well as driving up to 24 regular LED (with PWM control) or NeoPixel RGB (or RGBW) LEDs. There's also a handy slot through which you can route the servo, LED, and camera cables. The module pans and tilts through 180 degrees in each axis.

Use Pan-Tilt HAT with a Pi camera for face-tracking, or mount it on top of your roving robot as a set of eyes. Ideal for a mini CCTV system, it will allow you to control the movement of your Pi camera with minimal fuss. Or why not just stick a foam sword on top and make it swashbuckle?!

There's absolutely no soldering required (unless you decide to use a NeoPixel strip or ring with it), as the servos on the pan-tilt module have female jumper wires attached and they've soldered a strip of right-angled header pins to the underside of the HAT to connect them up.

They've also included a handy little acrylic camera mount to hold your camera snugly in the head of the pan-tilt module. The mount has a couple of mounting holes at the top to hold a NeoPixel stick and there's a neat little frosted diffuser to make the light super-dreamy. You can use one of our RGBW NeoPixel sticks for a lovely pure white glow (or any other color!)

Note that the Pi camera, mini pan-tilt kit, NeoPixel strip, and Pi 3 are not included. You'll need to pick them up separately!

Hey Mr. DJ! Turn up that Raspberry Pi mix to the max with this cute 3W Stereo Amplifier Bonnet for Raspberry Pi. (It's not big enough to be an official HAT, so we called it a bonnet, you see?) Does this guy look familiar? Of course it does! It's our Black, 3-Layer Round Robot Chassis Kit from AdaBox002!

This kit gives you everything you need to build the shell of a 2-wheel-drive Mobile Platform Robot! You get the metal plates that make up the chassis, two DC drive motors with matching wheels, and a caster ball for balance. You'll fill in the rest with a power supply, microcontroller board, and motor controller. The differential drive (two separately driven wheels) allows for a near zero turning radius while the high-strength aluminum alloy body plus high-quality high-speed motors make it suitable for flat indoor surfaces. It's adorably small like our other round robot, but has an extra layer for more storage and comes in fashionable Adafruit black!

We of course have suggestions to run the motors like our TB6612 breakout, Motor FeatherWing, Motor Shield for Arduino, or Motor HAT for Raspberry Pi. Basically anything that can do two bi-directional brushed DC motors at ~5V and 1.5 Amp peak. To steer the wheels, you'll need a microcontroller to toggle the motor driver like our Feather 32u4 Bluefruit LE, which we used for AdaBox002, and to power the robot we used a 4 x AA battery holder (not included) which fits nicely between layer #2 and #3. But this is all up to you and your imagination!

Note: LiPoly Battery, Feather board, FeatherWings, and Feather accessories are not included! This is just the body of the mobile platform robot. Purchasing AdaBox002 will set you up with nearly everything you need, or you can use whatever microcontroller and motor drivers you already have.

NEW PRODUCT – DotStar Micro LEDs (APA102–2020) - Smart SMD RGB LED - 10 pack

These incredibly small surface-mount LEDs are an easy way to add a lot of very tiny (but bright!) colorful dots to your project. They're mini versions of the ones in our digital DotStart strips and matrices with full chainable 2-wire control. They are just mind-bogglingly small. They are a mere 2mm x 2mm (way smaller than APA102-5050-RGB), which makes them pretty darn tiny so they might be a bit difficult to hand solder. SMT techniques with solder paste and hot air will work best here.

There are three LEDs inside, red green and blue. The RGB LEDs are controlled by a tiny chip that takes a 24-bit color level via the clock and data in and then does all the PWM control for you. So you just 'set' the color data once. Like DotStars (and the similar NeoPixels) you can chain them together, the output of one leading into the input of another for near-infinitely long strips.

Comes in a strip of 10 pieces. If you order more than one strip, it will come as multiple strips of 10, not one long strip.

Please note this is a surface mount part! It is possible to solder thin wires to the pads but its designed for use on a SMD PCB. If you are not comfortable with hand soldering SMD parts, check out our other RGB LEDs such as the thru-hole ones or in pixels/strips.

NEW PRODUCT – Adafruit VL6180X Time of Flight Distance Sensor

The VL6180X (sometimes called the VL6180) is a Time of Flight distance sensor like no other you've used! The sensor contains a very tiny laser source, and a matching sensor. The VL6180X can detect the "time of flight", or how long the laser light has taken to bounce back to the sensor. Since it uses a very narrow light source, it is good for determining distance of only the surface directly in front of it.

Unlike sonars that bounce ultrasonic waves, the 'cone' of sensing is very narrow. Unlike IR distance sensors that try to measure the amount of light bounced, the VL6180X is much more precise and doesn't have linearity problems or 'double imaging' where you can't tell if an object is very far or very close.

This is the 'little sister' of the Adafruit VL53L0X ToF sensor, and can handle about 5mm to 200mm of range distance. It also includes a lux sensor. If you need a larger range, check out the VL53L0X which can measure 50 - 1200 mm.

The sensor is small and easy to use in any robotics or interactive project. Since it needs 2.8V power and logic we put the little fellow on a breakout board with a regulator and level shifting. You can use it with any 3-5V power or logic microcontroller with no worries. Each order comes with a small piece of header. Solder the header onto your breakout board with your iron and some solder and wire it up for instant distance-sensing-success!

Communicating to the sensor is done over I2C with some simple commands. Most of the work is handled inside the sensor itself, so its very easy to port our Arduino library to another microcontroller.

It has slim openings for all your cables, an easy-to-access slot for your Micro SD card, slots for your Pi Camera, and a space for your GPIO cable to extend out from the Pi.

The Pi sits nicely in the base, latching to the corner pegs, and the lid fits snugly on top. If you want to break-out your Pi you can simply snap off the GPIO slot and add pHATs, Bonnets, GPIO cables and other accessories with ease.

This enclosure is only compatible with the Raspberry Pi Zero! It works with both the Zero v1.2 and v1.3 with camera connector.
