At 8-3, the New Orleans Saints have certainly been one of the NFL’s surprises of the 2017 season. Many things have attributed to the team’s successes this year, and while we’re far from over with the regular season, the biggest thing that has surprised us has been the stellar contributions from the rookie class.

Jeff Ireland has been a godsend for the Saints, and has helped put together back-to-back draft classes that have been very impactful for the team. However, it’s this year’s class that has been spectacular, to say the least. New Orleans got it right by taking Marshon Lattimore and Ryan Ramczyk in the first round, and then followed it up by nabbing Marcus Williams and trading a 2018 2nd Round pick to get Alvin Kamara. Those four players alone have made a huge difference for the Saints, as evident in a variety of categories, stats, and film.

Alex Anzalone was looking pretty good, improving from some early woes in the first two games, but was lost to injury. The verdict is still out on Trey Hendrickson, who is now in more of a spotlight with the injury to Alex Okafor. Al-Quadin Muhammad could eventually evolve into something more for the Saints, but hasn’t seen much of the field. Of course, try telling anyone that there’s a reason for that, and you’ll get all the backlash in the world.

Let’s also not forget the undrafted rookies making an impact, like Trey Edmunds and Justin Hardee. Most all of these rookies flashed early on in OTAs, minicamp, and training camp. Preseason is where they put it all together, and eventually made the final 53-man roster.

Both Lattimore and Kamara are respectively in the conversation for defensive and offensive rookie of the year, and a few more good showings should help solidify their place in what could be a special season for the Saints. The best part of the past couple of draft classes is that the makeup of this team is starting to look more like a franchise built for the long-term, which is something that could be very scary for the rest of the NFL.

The Saints issued their first injury report ahead of the rematch with the Panthers in Week 13 on Wednesday. It’s not all good news but it’s better than it could be.

The Saints’ first injury report of Week 13 came out on Wednesday and at least two big bits of good news were there. After not practicing at all last week, starting cornerbacks Marshon Lattimore (ankle) and Ken Crawley (abdomen) were only listed as limited.

After seeing how the defense looked without Lattimore and Crawley against the Rams, this is a big deal. P.J. Williams wasn’t terrible, but backup De’Vante Harris was victimized consistently by Jared Goff and the Rams’ offense. Still, Lattimore and Crawley were limited in Wednesday’s practice. It remains to be seen if either or both will be full go for Sunday.

Saints DNPs: M. Williams (groin), Armstead (thigh/shoulder), Fleener (concussion)
Limited: Ramczyk (elbow), Edmunds (shoulder), Lattimore (ankle), Crawley (abdomen), Hendrickson (elbow), Warford (shoulder)

Of more pressing concern were a few other names on the injury report. Safety Marcus Williams (groin), left tackle Terron Armstead (thigh/shoulder) and tight end Coby Fleener (concussion) didn’t practice. Armstead left Sunday’s game in LA early and was replaced by Andrus Peat with Senio Kelemete filling in at left guard. That’s by no means ideal. The Saints brought back tackle Bryce Harris on Wednesday for depth just in case.

With rookie right tackle Ryan Ramczyk (elbow) also showing up as limited on this latest injury report, there may be cause for concern on the offensive line. It’s not clear how serious the injury to rookie safety Marcus Williams (groin) is. He finished the Rams game without showing any sign of limitation.

30 November Another Significant Day in history Saint Andrea apostolo Saint Andrew Statue at Vatican
Buried: Church of the Holy Apostles, Turkey
Born: Galilee Holy Lands
Died: 30 November 60 AD, Patras, Greece
Nationality: Roman
Andrew the Apostle (Greek: Ἀνδρέας, Andreas; from the early 1st century B.C – mid to late 1st century A.D), also known as Saint Andrew and called in the Orthodox tradition the First-Called (Greek: Πρωτόκλητος, Prōtoklētos), was a Christian Apostle and the brother of Saint Peter.
The name "Andrew" (Greek: manly, brave, from ἀνδρεία, Andreia, "manhood, valour"), like other Greek names, appears to have been common among the Jews, Christians, and other Hellenized people of Judea. No Hebrew or Aramaic name is recorded for him. According to Orthodox tradition, the apostolic successor to Saint Andrew is the Patriarch of Constantinople.
Relics
Relics of the Apostle Andrew are kept at the Basilica of Saint Andrew in Patras, Greece; in Amalfi Cathedral (the Duomo di Sant'Andrea), Amalfi, Italy; St Mary's Roman Catholic Cathedral, Edinburgh, Scotland; and the Church of St Andrew and St Albert, Warsaw, Poland. There are also numerous smaller reliquaries throughout the world.
Andrew's remains were preserved at Patras. According to one legend, Saint Regulus (Rule) was a monk at Patras, who was advised in a dream to hide some of the bones. Shortly thereafter, most of the relics were translated from Patras to Constantinople by order of the Roman emperor Constantius II around 357 and deposited in the Church of the Holy Apostles.
Regulus was said to have had a second dream in which an angel advised him to take the hidden relics "to the ends of the earth" for protection. Wherever he was shipwrecked, he was to build a shrine for them. St. Rule set sail, taking with him a kneecap, an upper arm bone, three fingers and a tooth. He sailed west, towards the edge of the known world, and was shipwrecked on the coast of Fife, Scotland. However, the relics were probably brought to Britain in 597 as part of the Augustine Mission, and then in 732 to Fife, by Bishop Acca of Hexham, a well-known collector of religious relics.
The skull of Saint Andrew, which had been taken to Constantinople, was returned to Patras by Emperor Basil I, who ruled from 867 to 886.
In 1208, following the sack of Constantinople, those relics of Saint Andrew and Saint Peter which remained in the imperial city were taken to Amalfi, Italy, by Cardinal Peter of Capua, a native of Amalfi. A cathedral (Duomo), was built, dedicated to Saint Andrew (as is the town itself), to house a tomb in its crypt where it is maintained that most of the relics of the apostle, including an occipital bone, remain.
Thomas Palaeologus was the youngest surviving son of Byzantine Emperor Manuel II Palaiologos. Thomas ruled the province of Morea, the medieval name for the Peloponnese. In 1461, when the Ottomans crossed the Strait of Corinth, Palaeologus fled Patras for exile in Italy, bringing with him what was purported to be the skull of Saint Andrew. He gave the head to Pope Pius II, who had it enshrined in one of the four central piers of St. Peter's Basilica in the Vatican.
In September 1964, Pope Paul VI, as a gesture of goodwill toward the Greek Orthodox Church, ordered that all of the relics of Saint Andrew that were in Vatican City be sent back to Patras. Cardinal Augustin Bea along with many other cardinals presented the skull to Bishop Constantine of Patras on 24 September 1964.The cross of Saint Andrew was taken from Greece during the Crusades by the Duke of Burgundy. It was kept in the church of St. Victor in Marseilles until it returned to Patras on 19 January 1980. The cross of the apostle was presented to the Bishop of Patras Nicodemus by a Catholic delegation led by Cardinal Roger Etchegaray. All the relics, which consist of the small finger, the skull (part of the top of the cranium of Saint Andrew), and the cross on which he was martyred, have been kept in the Church of St. Andrew at Patras in a special shrine and are revered in a special ceremony every 30 November, his feast day.
In 2006, the Catholic Church, again through Cardinal Etchegaray, gave the Greek Orthodox Church another relic of Saint Andrew
