This application allows users to mount an SMB file share in their Downloads/Files app in Android. That way, users can access their remote files seamlessly from their Android devices, opening, modifying, and deleting them.
This application is a direct port of Samba client which can be found at https://samba.org. As such, it supports the entire feature supported by Samba client.
This application is open-sourced under the GNU General Public License. The full source can be found at https://github.com/google/samba-documents-provider.

Not the most user friendly app yet, but hey, that's what you get for an intial release I guess. Mounting it is easy enough if you know what to key in though. For my windows share, I ticked needs a password, set my domain to WORKGROUP, and set my user and password to guest. Works fine. Would love to see this app get baked into newer Android releases with the option to scan for samba shares and tapping on them to add them rather than what it is now.

It seems a bit hit and miss. Downloads allow you to browse the share but opening a large file like a video fail whereas other samba options allow you to access the shares like the file was on your phone. You should be able to access a file share from any program but you can't. Also, seems like no easy way to unmount yet other than uninstalling. For simple browse and copy back to your device it works ok.

Seems legit.. use at own peril. Only supports SMBv1 shares.. the sort of share that is currently being exploited by WannaCrypyt / NotPetya RansomWare...

A bizarre half baked attempt at a service app, with poor platform support and limited options. Needs a lot more work before I would consider using this to access my local files.

Only support SMBv1 which has known security problems and is disabled on most good NAS solutions. Doesn't appear to support MDNS either which Windows, Mac and Linux use for name resolution in home networks.

Due to wanncry virus Microsoft is removing SMB V1 if comments is true it's a bad move by Google should support SMB V1 and V2.

Works well! I can read and write local shared drives of my computers. My main issue is that I have no clue how to rename / un-mount the drives afterwards.
This app only supports SMB v1. Whats going on Google? You use to care about Security
This would be more useful if it was natively baked into Android so I had one less reason to root.. since these aren't native cifs shares, you can't play music/movies in other apps..
Continually just crashes on open will wait until it matures or works.
Doesn't support SMBv3. Cannot connect to my router. Disable v1 support for security!
What in the hell Google? SMBv1? Who on earth thought this was a good idea?
Finally! Other apps are demanding money for this basic functionality! Thank you Google.
Good initial release, would love to see image/video thumbnails in the future
Only supports SMBv1 so it's unusable by me as I have disabled it on all my shares
It's only support SMBv1, that not safe to use anymore, so it's not working for me since I've disabled SMBv1 on my conputer. Please update the app to support SMBv2 and newer version.
Unstable on miui 7 and ofc unsafe to use because of vulnerabilities
