For many of our 600,000 small business owners the main reward for the long hours week in & week out is at the end when they sell. After taxing them for 40 years on literally everything how is it right to sting them again for a third of what they’ve made? That’s not the Kiwi way.

New Zealanders aspire & want to get ahead for themselves & their families. How is it right that an $8m home in Auckland won't face a CGT but a couple scrimping and saving for a bach or crib for their family will get slammed with the top tax rate? That's not the Kiwi way.

On capital gains: . "This is a tax on small businesses, baches, investments and shares, retirement savings.. "All it will do is make it harder for New Zealanders to save a bit, build up a bit of a nest egg, and it'll see more money heading offshore."

ON NOW: says it's unclear if a CGT would make housing more affordable. "That's arguable, & we have to accept that the evidence in the report says there's some modelling that tells you it wouldn't happen, & there are some experiences that have seen improvements."

This Tax Working Group report is an assault on the Kiwi way of life. I will fight it every step of the way.

I don’t want a CGT no ifs and no buts. But as soon as you exempt farms but not other businesses the thing is a nonsense not worth having no matter your perspective. It would be perverse economics.

How on earth could the likes of James Shaw & David Parker support a CGT where farms were exempt as NZ First is saying but not other businesses? That would drive a lot more dairying surely & we know James and David don’t like that

The PM says she “relishes” my questions. I’d relish some answers on actual measures, targets & deliverables on state & Kiwibuild houses this term &transparentgovtever?

Australia’s CGT is much more timid than the one the TWG will support & and when people consider their options Aussie looks better. A couple thousand net left last year but we won’t know this year because the Govt got rid of the relevant Stat.

More Kiwis will bugger off to Aussie with a CGT. It will kill off any desire to get ahead here. By the way, a couple of months back the Govt got rid of the stat collection that tells us how many leave here for our Trans-Tasman cousin each year.
