2. President Trump has engaged in impeachable conduct.

The far right (eg Bannon) despises Maduro as a socialist but embraces Bolsonaro & Orban. The far left (eg Greenwald) despises Bolsonaro/Orban as fascists but embraces Maduro. Interestingly, Putin appeals to both. The irony is lost on them but the two extremes are mirror images.

6. None of this is to diminish the risk of Pompeo & Bolton dragging the US into a war with Iran. But it does suggest that our bluffer-in-chief may well walk away from this escalation with nothing to show. The damage to US credibility will be enormous.

5. Consider also the global context. In North Korea, Trump moved from "fire and fury" directed at "rocketman" to a love affair with the same in a matter of months. As noted already in the case of Venezuela, he backed down very quickly.

4. Furthermore, it was Trump who announced a complete withdrawal from Syria, later clumsily amended to include a tiny military footprint, which by the way is wholly insufficient to contain Iranian influence in Syria, much less beyond. Talk about incoherent.
