About 9,000 members of the military identify as trans. The Trump administration’s policy to bar them from serving is based on fear not facts. All who bravely answer the call to serve should be given the opportunity.

The government of Sudan must cease its violent attacks on peaceful protesters. The administration’s quiet response to another anti-democratic strongman shows its lack of commitment to democracy and human rights around the world.

If this shutdown continues, James will miss his pension check at the end of the month. But like many Coast Guard members I’ve heard from, he’s not worried about himself: he’s worried about the young families who will be most hurt by missing a paycheck.
