I'm pleased SCOTUS ruled in our favor to allow the Peace Cross - a hallowed memorial to those brave Prince Georgians who died serving our country in WWI - to stand. Our community came together to protect this monument to those who laid down their lives.

It is not unreasonable to believe the Trump administration is bringing us closer to armed conflict with Iran. That's why now, more than ever, Congress must make one thing clear: The President does not have Congressional authorization for war with Iran.

The 2001 AUMF is too broad and has been used to engage in hostilities and deploy troops without Congressional authorization. This historic vote is our first step to reclaiming authority Congress has abdicated for too long, at a critical time for our national security.

As a nation we must defend transgender servicemembers - they make great sacrifices for our country & their service should be honored. Defend them as they defend you. I'm grateful our bipartisan amendment passed and I pledge to continue working with to end Trump's ban.

I’ve been in HASC’s NDAA markup all day making the investments in the DOD that we need to keep our country safe. It’s disgusting to hear the President welcome foreign adversaries interfering in our elections and say he’d willingly accept that help.

While I understand DOD moved quickly to correct and remove these instances, the fact that such offensive language has been in use for so long requires further review to ensure all of its thousands of forms are accurate, up-to-date and free of any insensitive terminology.

This terminology is not only repugnant, but is non-compliant with guidance issued by OMB and DOD on government-wide standards on federal data for race and ethnicity issued more than 20 years ago.

It was recently brought to my attention by that the DD-2064 - the certificate of death when a servicemember loses his or her life overseas - utilized the term “Negroid” as one of the race classifications. This is not the only example.
