So we learned in this Tweet that is obsessed with Google searching Omar Khadr. Weird guy. Wonder what he gets when he searches ‘tax cut’. I get story after story about how they don’t create jobs.

This is heart-breaking for the victim's family and there are no winners. A criminal justice system that inflicts torture shames all of us. Hopefully this is a major corrective and there will be more funding for resources in jails so people aren't placed in plastic boxes for years

With adequate funds for staffing and security, there are few attacks on correctional officers and little to zero use of solitary confinement in German prisons

🌍 I did not tweet much about Davos, but this one is interesting: ‘It feels like I’m at a firefighters conference and no one’s allowed to speak about water.’ This historian wasn’t afraid to confront the billionaires at Davos about their greed

Wow. This is a big deal. Murder charges stayed because accused was held in extreme solitary confinement for years. Court won't release details until appeal period expires, but finds many rights violated, including right to be free from torture.

As someone who works on migrant rights, I get that I'm blocked by Candice Malcolm and Ezra Levant. But to be blocked by the critic speaks volumes about their desire to engage in good faith. cc:

Having a good human rights policy is important. Employers should ensure that staff are regularly trained on human rights and accommodation. Monitoring and accountability are essential. If things go wrong, leaders should acknowledge the issue and remedy the harm.

Cda forced to sign a new detainee monitoring agreement, Minister resigned, Harper prorogued Parliament, Speaker made unprecedented ruling on parliamentary privilege, "Taliban Jack" slurs, etc. But you are correct Cda remains out of step on legal protections for detainees abroad.

I don’t want to impugn the integrity of the OPP, but a breach of trust criminal charge is very hard to maintain, and these circumstances are utterly bizarre. No doubt Edelson will have many defences open to him. This is a hot mess and we’ll see if it ever gets to trial. Toxic.
