On the flip side, governments like Mexico, Uruguay and Iceland stood their ground saying that this would represent a retrogress of at least 25 years. It is equally encouraging to see the solidarity and articulation of CSOs who are stronger as a result of this outdated nonsense.

Lastly, I arguee that the Guidance pushes two key concepts: the concept of leverage - requiring corporates to use their leverage to prevent and mitigate harm; and the concept of extraterritoriality of IHL. That is, recogning the transboundary character of these activities.

: The guidance creates a framework that demands for: (i) gender responsive assessment; (ii) gender transformative measures – substantive gender equality; and (iii) gender transformative remedies able to change power structures keeping them in marginalised conditions.

Holy See: UNGPs demands all respect all applicable laws i.e. all International Human Rights Law. Arguably social norms are indispensable and seenas compatible with human rights law. International legal instrument should be created to ensure remedies at int. and domestic level.
