How much for me? by Consistent-Sale4370 in Edibles

[–]rita292 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Even if you're a heavy smoker I would start with 10 and see, edibles are just different. Some people take 100 and feel nothing, some people take 5 and go to space. Different pathways to the brain and all.

Is it illegal where you are? If it's not I feel like there should be no question, you're an adult and you get to make your own choices. If it's illegal that is more complicated.

EDIT: sorry I didn't read carefully enough, I see you already answered this question

Does losing in Go ever become easy? by PurelyCandid in baduk

[–]rita292 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a very new Go player who still loses almost every game, I actually think growing our comfort with failure is one of the most beautiful ways Go can improve our lives.

In the world we've built, failure has incredibly high stakes. Fail in school and you won't get a diploma. Fail in work and you could be out on the streets. We create this claustrophobic, tense way of being where we are walking on eggshells our whole lives. It's very soul-crushing, because being a human is all about making mistakes, failing, getting back up against.

In Go, you make SO many mistakes as you learn, and there are no stakes that threaten your well-being, it's just a game. It's so freeing. There is always room to grow, no one "masters" Go, so there's no end goal that you fail if you don't make.

In short, Go is a safe way to practice failing, which is something we need to be able to do. We all have the right to fail, and Go gives us that gift.

If you can add cabbage and onion you can make this ethiopian dish that will use up a lot of potatoes/carrots. I tend to season it a little more heavily than this recipe calls for and serve it with sourdough bread.

What does "moderation" mean to you? by lesbianexplorer in Petioles

[–]rita292 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hoo... long answer coming.

How my journey looked was somewhere around 2016/17 I started smoking every day, and that wasn't working well for me. I was smoking whether I actually wanted to or not, I wasn't enjoying my time while high, weed was starting to make me anxious, and I felt like I was missing out on life by being high all the time. For example I wasn't reading books, writing, going out and seeing people, because I was getting high instead and didn't want to do those things while high.

I think in 2018 or 2019 I took my first cannabis fast (3 weeks), and from that point I started trying to "moderate" and tried different strategies to do so. I tried smoking only on weekends, but then I would just feel compelled to smoke on weekends and would spend every weekend high because it was the only time I "could" get high. So I went back to smoking when I wanted but I kept on taking regular 3 week to 1 month fasts to check in with myself about my usage and have a reset. It was kind of a struggle, but it was better for me than smoking every day.

In 2021 I started taking Wellbutrin, and that just made me crave weed way less. I still did fasts 2x a year to reset/check in, but the fasts were a lot easier and I thought about weed less during them, and it was easier to moderate and not be constantly thinking about weed during periods when I wasn't fasting.

In 2023 I felt like my weed use was starting to become more compulsive/less mindful again, so I started a practice where 1. Every time I wanted to get high I had to take notes about why I wanted to get high and what I was going to do while I was high before partaking, and 2. I noted my use on a spreadsheet so I could track how many days I used each month/year. That was a great practice that really made me evaluate my relationship with consuming, and what were the factors that made me want to partake. On average I used about 5 times a month during that year.

Right now, I just came off a two month fast, my longest since before I became a daily smoker. During that time I started taking Concerta for ADHD in addition to The Wellbutrin, and I barely thought about weed at all. Totally different from where I was 8 years ago. I don't know what my moderation is going to look like going forward, but I know that fasting minimum 2x a year is going to continue to be part of my plan, because that is the strategy that has helped me stay mindful of my consumption more than anything else. Other than that I'm feeling it out.

TLDR: medication and regular breaks from weed.

What does "moderation" mean to you? by lesbianexplorer in Petioles

[–]rita292 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My two cents is that moderation is a balancing act, and so we are constantly re-evaluating it. Just like everything in life, we never achieve perfect stasis or equilibrium, balance is an active state. Moderation means constantly checking in with yourself and your usage and correcting course as needed, for as long as moderation is important to you.

Fish and Vitamin D by Corona688 in EatCheapAndHealthy

[–]rita292 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

iirc vitamin D fixes itself and accumulates in your bones, so you could kind of "load up" during the summer months and then be good enough to make it through the winter.

Side note, this is a good reason to not arbitrarily take vitamin D supplements without talking to a doctor. You can slowly overdose over time.

I've taken several year+ long breaks from THC. Along with therapy, going to the gym, proper nutrition, and having friends/hobbies...Nothing has ever come close to replacing the dopamine/happiness/lifted mood that THC gives me. What does this mean for me? by [deleted] in Petioles

[–]rita292 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's kind of what I was getting at... I guess I'll just cut to the chase and say that it's possible OP has an underlying condition like ADHD or depression or PTSD or any number of things that mean that just gym/nutrition/hobbies are not gonna cut it for their mental health. Maybe a diagnosis and working with a prescriber would help, or maybe if "using it properly and smoking in moderation" really works that well for OP then just uncoupling the smoking with the guilt and stigma is all that's needed here.
