    Hi @manoiese

I do appreciate your intentions here.

    But you're wrong.

Libertine is getting more or less obsolete. Nowadays as @ikoz pointed out, we have snaps getting supported.
Still in early stage, but the goal of Alfred, who did all the heavy lifting, is for him to be able to develop for Ubuntu Touch from an Ubuntu Touch device. We use an immutable file system for good reasons. The fact that you don't know that means that you didn't read much on this forum or about Ubuntu Touch. But it might also be because you had access to outdated information. For the aforementioned reasons we probably won't follow your suggestions. But your take on the documentation is true.
We try to make those information more easily accessible but somehow people seem to get old news from I don't know where.
We have FAQ on the forum and on Telegram as well as weekly Q&A where these questions are answered again and again.
The porting documentation is being updated and the overall documentation seems pretty clear to me.
But people keep coming here expecting Ubuntu Touch to be something that it has never been and will never be.
That's a mystery to me, but I would love to understand where it comes from so we can fix it. My conclusion is that as a developer, you should take a look at the documentation to understand what is Ubuntu Touch, how to develop for it on the application level or at system level.
My advice, before wanting to teach seasoned developers (which I am not) here a lesson, try learning about the project and asking questions. Only then you can become a master and start teaching the newcomers.

Ubuntu Touch is pretty complex and rushing in won't get you anywhere.
It takes time to get familiar with the project and to be able to contribute.
So take it easy and proceed step-by-step.
Your enthusiasm is appreciated and I hope you will be become a valued contributor if you take the time to learn and contribute.

    Kindly yours

@Kristoffer_Umea said in Ubuntu Touch Q&A 155 Call for Questions:

@arubislander True, but UT can install Android apps due to Waydroid so I fail to see what's going to break.

For one, not all Android apps work on Waydroid. And it is not often possible to know beforehand which will and which won't work.

Waydroid is a layer if I'm not mistaken.

Not exactly, Waydroid is a container, in this it is different to WINE on the desktop. WINE is a translation layer for system calls. Waydroid is actual Lineage OS running in a container.

For your use case, this would mean having it running in the background constantly, which currently would drain your battery very quickly.

Of course you are the only person who can decide if these tradeoffs are worth it.

I just got a Pixel 3a XL set up with UT. Everything phone-wise seems to be working great thus far except for calling and group MMS. I'm in the US, currently using T-Mobile. Is there a bounty on this somewhere that I could contribute to? I'm also happy to help with testing any way I can.

Does anyone have a link to a more in depth explanation of what's needed?

I overlayed touch.pa for two reasons:

to make bluetooth calls work more reliable.
So this one maybe get fixed by the MR. to make wired headphones work. For this it was needed to explicitly add the rate=48000 parameter to the load-module command:

Hi! In the last few days we have updated two of our websites ubuntu-touch.io and lomiri.com . Check them out. Next one on the list is ubports.com πŸ™‚

Thanks to all of the contributors @Kaizen @Lga @kingu and @flohack for managing our websites and releasing the new update.

    P. S. All the content on the websites is available for changes and suggestions in Gitlab repos: https://gitlab.com/ubports/infrastructure/ubuntu-touch.io and https://gitlab.com/ubports/infrastructure/lomiri.com

@alagirialagiri new release got many fixes.

Submit your device data - here's the guide.

Please give full details to add this app working

This script does the kernel data collecting and parsing, then sending it over DBus to the QML GUI.

postmarketos has a great bootstrap script, to get started, to not bloat main system, to automate rutine processes, guide on the porting process, etc.

Does anyone interested in adopting the script, or making own script for ubports bootstrap ? With text based gui and stuff

    @oya-g said in Japanese!!:

Channel Update β†’ 20.04Development has Japanese. My device is Pixel3a, so it is 4G compatible.

The "development" channel is maybe not meant for day-to-day use, as it may be buggy and/or unstable. So really looking forward to japanese support arriving in stable.

Note that even with a 4G compatible phone, you will not be able to do any phone calls inside japan, as the 4G protocol stack does not by itself support telephony. It only supports data.

For telephony, you need VoLTE support, which is quite a messy affair, as it requires various firmware and software components to cooperate properly for calls to be routed over the 4G data layer (i.e. as VoIP call). UBports does not support that currently.

    About your question:
UBports is a German foundation. And when I search for "public transport" at open-store.io (app store for Ubuntu Touch (UT)) I see four German, two Spanish, one Norwegian, one American, one Hungarian and one Swiss app(s). So you have maybe slightly more people who know some things about UT in this countries, but I do not think that this is significant.
It probably depends more on what you want to do and how you want to structure your company (How closely do HW and SW teams need to work together? Where is the head of your company? Is this a commercial project?...).
If your hardware team also takes care of firmware and drivers and you are only searching for some people who write some apps for you, you should find people who can do some C++, Qt and server stuff nearly everywhere.
Specifically for Ubuntu Touch, you could maybe post a job description in this forum and let the people work from home.

Some time ago some people related to Volla did a fundraiser to bring Android apps to UT. They commissioned some Russian developer and it was very successful. So maybe this could also be an option for you:

    https://forums.ubports.com/topic/5907/open-ubuntu-touch-to-all-android-applications/ https://forums.ubports.com/user/stanwood https://www.gofundme.com/f/anbox-on-ut?utm_medium=copy_link&utm_source=customer&utm_campaign=p_lico+share-sheet

    About no phone numbers:
A lot of messengers and other services depend on verification via SMS. This is maybe something you want to consider.

About using UT as a base:
Please be aware that Ubuntu Touch has some limitations and depending on what you want to do (how much you want to modify the system), it could maybe be more convenient to start with something else (like Debian). There are currently also some people working on Lomiri (the desktop environment of Ubuntu Touch) for Debian.
But this very much depends on what you want to do.

The last step installs the rootfs usually in system partition, see the install section of the porting documention.
Basically flash the latest xenial image from the CI to system. Alternatively push the image with adb to /data/system.img when booted to recovery.
Otherwise you could try ubports installer with only the systemimage:install command.
You can also see the halium-install source code, particularly these lines.

Be sure to check if this partition exists as partition schemes can vary.
