Keyword search[edit]

I have a wikipedia article up on my screen — how do search for a particular word within that article? I have looked for an answer and cannot find. Thanks--Eagledj (talk) 01:33, 8 January 2017 (UTC)

@Eagledj: Wikipedia cannot do it but most browsers have such a feature in an edit menu or with shortcut Ctrl+F (Windows) or ⌘ Cmd+F (Mac OS). It's mentioned at Help:Searching#Other search tools. If this doesn't work then what is your browser? PrimeHunter (talk) 02:29, 8 January 2017 (UTC)

Specific Linking (to Wikipedia Article Sections?)[edit]

I would like to know if there are any ways to specify intentionally what section in the page a link will bring a user to. For example, when I linked "Stake President" using the wiki-brackets [[Stake President]] it brought be to the section about "Stake Officers" in the "Stake (Latter Day Saints)" Wikipedia page, which is perfect. I also would like to link to "Patriarch" and "Bishop", but right now they link to the top of their respective Wikipedia Articles. I would prefer it to go directly to the sections about LDS Patriarchs and LDS Bishops to avoid confusion or miscommunication resulting from a misleading link. Is this possible? I am relatively new to Wikipedia but ready to learn! My page is not yet posted (it's new- I'm working on creating it) otherwise I would put the link here as it says in the instructions. Chief2443 (talk) 02:46, 8 January 2017 (UTC)

@Chief2443: See Help:Link#Section linking (anchors) and Help:Redirect#Creating and editing redirects. Stake President is a redirect saying #REDIRECT [[Stake (Latter Day Saints)#Stake officers]]. PrimeHunter (talk) 02:56, 8 January 2017 (UTC)

Vandal requires blocking[edit]

Please see contributions for User:CanadaToronto1986. Thanks. Mitchumch (talk) 03:50, 8 January 2017 (UTC)

Yes check.svg Done For future reference WP:AIV is the appropriate place for vandalism. Also some of the stuff posted does not require multiple warnings. I only looked at one edit and had I seen it before any warnings I would still have blocked them on the spot. Use commonsense. Racist attacks or slurs are pretty much zero tolerance. -Ad Orientem (talk) 04:07, 8 January 2017 (UTC)

Alt spelling/pronunciation[edit]

In Nahshon Dion Anderson, a Hebrew spelling and pronunciation is given for the name Nahshon. From what is available in the article, there is no connection to Hebrew or Israel at all. So it strikes me as odd. Is there a policy on this? MB 04:40, 8 January 2017 (UTC)

Hi MB, see WP:BRD. -- Roger (Dodger67) (talk) 10:39, 8 January 2017 (UTC)
I don't know how Nahshon Dion Anderson got the name or pronounces it but Nahshon is a Hebrew name. PrimeHunter (talk) 11:42, 8 January 2017 (UTC)
I don't doubt it is a Hebrew name. But since we don't know how this person pronounces it, and there is no indication of any association with Hebrew, this could be misleading information to have in the article. I was just wondering if there was any policy stating when to add this kind of information in general. MB 16:41, 8 January 2017 (UTC)

Harassment at own talk page[edit]

A persistent SPA keeps posting at my talk page after I tagged a bio article about himself, which was an obvious WP:CSD and was promptly zapped in much less than an hour. He seems to have taken great exception to this, even though I wasn't the one who personally deleted said article. I am not interested in conversing with him, yet he keeps posting—five times and counting, within the hour. No abusive or threatening language as such, but he is annoying the shit out of me by making accusations of having a "personal grudge" against him, despite my not wanting anything to do with him whatsoever. I don't think this issue belongs at EWN or AIV, so what do I do? Mac Dreamstate (talk) 13:28, 8 January 2017 (UTC)

I have dropped a note on their talk page. If the problem persists, ping me or contact me directly on my talk page. Also FYI if you don't want someone leaving messages on your talk page it's best to just tell them as much directly. Once told to desist it is improper for people to keep posting on other editors talk pages.. -Ad Orientem (talk) 13:39, 8 January 2017 (UTC)
My thanks for stepping in. Advice noted in future. Mac Dreamstate (talk) 14:06, 8 January 2017 (UTC)

Hi Cintawayne, and welcome to Wikipedia. You can contest the speedy deletion on the article's talk page, but I don't see your article there any more, so it has probably been deleted. Class455 (talk|stand clear of the doors!) 18:57, 8 January 2017 (UTC)
(edit conflict) Please provide a link to the page in question. This thread seems to be your only edit from that account (assuming the page hasn't already been deleted). Other editors may the be able to offer some advice. Thank you. Eagleash (talk) 19:00, 8 January 2017 (UTC)
(edit conflict) The deletion log at Dazzle Shea Butter Industries Limited says that there were 3 reasons for deletion. The words or codes in blue are wikilinks to further explanations. Before you try to recreate it, please also read WP:Your first article. --David Biddulph (talk) 19:01, 8 January 2017 (UTC)
@Cintawayne: you could also check your User Talk page (User talk:Cintawayne) for the message that spells out why that article was deleted. Please remember that Wikipedia is not a corporate directory where businesses can post promotional material: it is an encyclopedia which aims to have balanced, neutral articles that summarize the best independently published information about notable subjects. Writing a new article from scratch is one of the more difficult tasks here; my recommendation is to build your skills and experience by improving existing articles before moving on to creating new ones.--Gronk Oz (talk) 21:56, 8 January 2017 (UTC)
The reason that I pointed to the deletion log rather than the user talk page was that the nomination message on the user talk page didn't mention the copyright violation, which was presumably discovered by the administrator at the time of the deletion. --David Biddulph (talk) 23:14, 8 January 2017 (UTC)

Are autopatrolled articles in fact noindexed?[edit]

Wikipedia:Autopatrolled states:

"This user right may affect article indexing by search engines. As of October 2016, new articles are automatically noindexed (hidden from search engines) until they are patrolled."

Is this actually still the case? If so, can someone tell me why that hasn't been adapted for autopatrolled article creations? It strikes me as amazingly counterproductive to hide from search engines a subset of new articles that comes with an implicit quality guarantee (as expressed by the creator having been granted the autopatrolled right). Will these articles remain forever noindexed unless someone goes and manually removes the tag? --Elmidae (talk · contribs) 19:17, 8 January 2017 (UTC)

  • I cannot say whether or not, in fact, autopatrol creations are noindexed. However, I question whether your reading of the quote is correct: in the context of the page, I read it as meaning autopatrolled pages will be immediately indexed, unlike other new articles who will have to wait until they are patrolled by a reviewer. TigraanClick here to contact me 19:31, 8 January 2017 (UTC)
    • Autopatrol creations are autopatrolled. Thus they are not noindexed. Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk, contributions) 20:22, 8 January 2017 (UTC)

Inconsistent template[edit]

Can someone explain why {{Deceased}} is producing different results at User:JohnCD and User talk:JohnCD? The userpage has masculine pronouns and the talk page has plural, and neither template has been instructed to employ any parameters. The template automatically detects the user-specified gender setting, but one can't make separate specifications for different userspace pages, so I can't imagine how this could be intentional. Nyttend (talk) 23:08, 8 January 2017 (UTC)

It currently only uses the pagename to detect gender in the user namespace and not user talk.[1] It says "His/Her/Their user page is preserved here" so it doesn't sound like the template was designed for user talk, but Special:WhatLinksHere/Template:Deceased Wikipedian shows it's often used there. Maybe the editor just didn't think of possible use on user talk. It can be forced to check the gender by supplying the username like {{Deceased|JohnCD}}. PrimeHunter (talk) 23:36, 8 January 2017 (UTC)
Thanks for noticing that; I didn't realise that the coding referred specifically to userspace. Would it be easy to create another "if" line for namespace=3 or namespace=user talk? I have no experience with parser functions (with the limited exception of {{{1}}}, {{{2}}}, etc. to supply the raw text of parameters) and don't want to break something with a bold edit. How to get details of old image long since cross-loaded to Commons[edit]

In the early days of Wikipedia and before Wikimedia Commons existed, I uploaded an image of Reading Abbey. On the 2nd April 2007, this was cross-loaded to Commons, and the Wikipedia version subsequently deleted. Unfortunately somewhere along the way, the date of the image was lost, and I'm now trying to recover this and any other details I probably recorded at the original upload time. Is there any way of accessing the details of the original upload to Wikipedia?. The image's name on Commons is File:Reading Abbey interior.jpg and I think it likely that it had the same name on WP:EN. I'd be very grateful for any help on this. -- chris_j_wood (talk) 14:23, 9 January 2017 (UTC)

This is the final description you had on the image in an edit at 14 February 2005, at 22:06 (admins only):

ARTIST PAGE[edit]

Hello There,

I have a simple request.

I want to create a Wikipedia page for a band I work with but I do not know how to do that.

Could you help me?

Thank you

Darkinsectius (talk) 15:45, 9 January 2017 (UTC)

  • Hello Darkinsectius. If you "work with" this band for monetary compensation, you absolutely need to read WP:PAID before editing any further (blue=hyperlink, click on it). Otherwise:

Symbol move vote.svg To create an article, follow these steps:

  1. Read Your first article carefully.
  2. If you don't have an account, consider creating one (it's not essential, but it makes some things easier, especially communicating with other editors) and logging in.
  3. Learn the basics of editing with the Wikipedia:Tutorial
  4. Make sure the subject is notable enough to warrant a stand-alone article
  5. Gather reliable sources to cite in the article
  6. Make sure no article on the subject exists under a different title by typing the subject into the search box and clicking 'Search'
  7. Use the Article Wizard to create a draft.
  8. Create the article, including all your references, making sure you adhere to the Manual of Style and our article layout guidelines. Base the article on what the references say, rather than on what you know.
  9. Once you believe that your draft meets Wikipedia's requirements, submit it for review by picking the "Submit your draft for review" button in the draft.
  10. Be aware that many drafts are not accepted the first time, or even the second time they are submitted for review, for failing to adhere to our policies and guidelines. New articles by new users are particularly likely not to be accepted, due to new users' unfamiliarity with our rules. Consider gaining experience by editing existing articles before attempting to create new ones.

How to resolve DISPLAYTITLE conflicts[edit]

In this edit I was trying to get the title to display as "Dissolution (Forgotten Realms novel)" rather than "Dissolution (Forgotten Realms novel)", but it produces an error message (Warning: Display title "<i>Dissolution</i> (Forgotten Realms novel)" overrides earlier display title "<i>Dissolution</i> (<i>Forgotten Realms</i> novel)".) Any suggestions on how to resolve this? Deli nk (talk) 17:42, 9 January 2017 (UTC)

@Deli nk: The {{Infobox book}} code was also trying to set the DISPLAYTITLE. I stopped that by adding |italic title=no to the infobox. -- John of Reading (talk) 17:53, 9 January 2017 (UTC)

"Edit failed!" on Wikipedia app[edit]

Copyright on Film Poster[edit]

I would like to know which is the criteria on the copyright matter related to film poster. I mean, film poster is important to compose the article, but it belongs to the film producer. And therefore there's a copyright attached to it. What I need to do (which criteria I need to fullfill) to be able to upload and use in an article a film poster without violate any copyright.--SirEdimon (talk) 22:56, 9 January 2017 (UTC)

You should be able to upload it, as adding it would be considered fair use as long as it is of low resolution. Add a detailed fair use rationale when uploading the file. —MRD2014 (talkcontribs) 00:28, 10 January 2017 (UTC)
Hello, @SirEdimon: you are quite right that a film poster is copyright. In Wikipedia terms, it is not "free content", so they imaginatively call it "non-free content". Limited use of such non-free content is allowed as "fair use" (as MRD2014 says above) - the details can be found at Wikipedia:Non-free content. Basically, you will need to produce a low-resolution version of the image (up to 100,000 pixels total), and upload it to Wikipedia (NOT to Commons) using "Upload file" under "Tools" on the left hand of the screen. You will need to specify the article where it will be used, and select that it will be the principal visual identifier for he subject of that article. It should make sense if you read that article and the instructions along the way - if not, please feel free to come back and ask. --Gronk Oz (talk) 03:37, 10 January 2017 (UTC)

If you set an email address, you can request a password reset at this link: Special:PasswordReset
If you can't remember the password, and did not give an email address to request a new one, then you're out of luck - there's no way to prove that you're the same person.

Your explanations and help in speedy release would be much appreciated.06:08, 10 January 2017 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by EMAgain (talkcontribs)

@EMAgain: You should drop that haughty tone ("Wikiguardians", "linger in your drafty limbo"). It also doesn't read much like an encyclopedia article, and is almost completely unsourced. And why do you call him "Frederick Burkle" here while the draft's title is "Skip Burkle"? Expecting other users to take responsibility for it by mainspacing it in its current state is asking too much. If the problem is not WP:GNG, why not just cut 90% of it and so that it is at least properly sourced? 182.251.140.111 (talk) 08:50, 10 January 2017 (UTC)

I've been updating our company's Wikipedia page (Intertrust Technologies Corporation) and now a bot has deleted the entire page all of a sudden. How to use an email as Permission of Proof?[edit]

So I am currently working on an article for a video game and I needed photos for the article. I got into contract with the developers via email and they gave me specific permission to use some images, also via email. What do I do to prove that I have permission, because I can't copy a link to an email? UN$¢_Łuke_1Ø21Repørts 13:25, 10 January 2017 (UTC)

See WP:DCM and WP:COPYREQ. In essence, the developers need to contact Wikipedia's OTRS team and licence the images under a CC-BY-SA licence (and demonstrate their understanding that this does not limit the use of the images to Wikipedia, but allows anyone to use them free of charge for any purpose). You can't licence the images on their behalf, and they cannot give permission to use the images only on Wikipedia. Yunshui  13:30, 10 January 2017 (UTC)

{{subst:cite web|url=http://en.parisinfo.com/museen-sehenswurdigkeiten-paris/71478/Grande-Arche-de-la-Defense%7Ctitle=Monument: Grande Arche de la Défense|publisher=Convention and Visitors Bureau Paris|accessdate=2017-01-10}}

Thank you --Bigbossfarin (talk) 13:36, 10 January 2017 (UTC)

The "subst" doesn't belong there. Merely place the {{cite web}} template between the ref tags in the article. I've removed the subst in this edit. --David Biddulph (talk) 13:46, 10 January 2017 (UTC)
@Bigbossfarin: Your attempt to subst {{Internetquelle}} didn't work because the template was inside <ref>...</ref> tags. This is a known bug which has tripped up many editors; see Help:Substitution#Limitations. -- John of Reading (talk) 14:10, 10 January 2017 (UTC)
Thank you for support! --Bigbossfarin (talk) 14:12, 10 January 2017 (UTC)

Do I need to do any more?[edit]

The Kingston and District Sports Hall of Fame article was recently proposed for deletion and it was decided to merge it into Rogers K-Rock Centre instead. Since I am the one who pointed out the problems with the article in the first place, I decided that I might as well do the merge. I have added a paragraph about the hall of fame in the K-Rock article and put a note about it on the talk page. Do I need to do anything about the original hall of fame article or will that happen without my interference? Leschnei (talk) 14:07, 10 January 2017 (UTC)

Hey Leschnei. It looks like you still need to complete steps two through six at WP:MERGETEXT. TimothyJosephWood 14:12, 10 January 2017 (UTC)
Thanks TimothyJosephWood. Apparently I should have asked about merging before I jumped in. I'll go read WP:MERGETEXT now. Leschnei (talk) 14:56, 10 January 2017 (UTC)
Hey, that's how we all learn. I didn't know the either until you asked and I tried poking and to see if I could find the answer. Hell, that's half of why I hang out around here. So thanks to you as well for pointing out to me something I didn't know I didn't know. TimothyJosephWood 15:07, 10 January 2017 (UTC)
OK, this is going to take a bit more time than I have now; I'll have to come back to it tonight. At least I'll know next time not to start until I have time to finish! Leschnei (talk) 15:19, 10 January 2017 (UTC)
No worries. Obviously we don't want to leave things permanently unfinished, but there is no deadline, and no one is going to needlessly suffer if it doesn't get done till this evening. TimothyJosephWood 15:23, 10 January 2017 (UTC)

Search engines[edit]

Hi, I need help getting a page on the search engines. Page title is Gasner Derose. Thanks David Peterson 15:59, 10 January 2017 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by GSD77 (talkcontribs)

There are fewer than fifteen thousand articles in the queue awaiting review by new page patrol, so hopefully you won't have to wait longer than 4 months. If you are lucky it will be sooner. Please remember that your messages on discussion pages like this (but not articles) should be ended with a signature. --David Biddulph (talk) 16:07, 10 January 2017 (UTC)
Looking at Gasner Derose however, the urgency is for you to demonstrate his notability by references to published reliable sources independent of the subject. --David Biddulph (talk) 16:13, 10 January 2017 (UTC)

I believe this image is usable on Wikipedia. Am I right?[edit]

Hi! I've been working on an article about Louis B. Seltzer, long-time editor of the Cleveland Press, and I'd like to add an image of him to the infobox in his article. I found a good one at The Cleveland Memory Project, which is run by a local university and features a large collection of old photos from the Press. The paper has been out of business for decades and The Cleveland Memory Project's blanket copyright statement seems relatively "free," requiring only an attribution, but I'm not sure. Looking through Wikipedia's big mass of information about copyright felt like sinking into a quagmire of legalese, so I decided to ask you all! Should I treat this image of Seltzer, and the many other photos in the collection, as I would a fair-use image? In other words, should I only use them sparingly, like to illustrate an article about a long-dead individual? Or can I use them more liberally, sprinkling them throughout articles about Cleveland, as I would a free image? Thanks in advance for your help! Bobnorwal (talk) 16:08, 10 January 2017 (UTC)

"The Michael Schwartz Library at Cleveland State University allows reproductions of materials from Special Collections for the purposes of research, scholarship, teaching, news reporting, criticism, or comment"
is not IMHO compatible with our requirement that materials be available for any purposes, including commercial reuse. So you should treat this a a non-free image. Rojomoke (talk) 17:03, 10 January 2017 (UTC)
I believe you're right. Since posting this, I've seen several other examples of photos from that database being used on Wikipedia, and they're all use in a fair-use sort of way. Thanks! Bobnorwal (talk) 00:32, 11 January 2017 (UTC)

notice template for updating a section[edit]

We are in the process of updating a section of the wp:mos, specifically the 'In article text' section of WP:CANSTYLE. Is there a template I can put at the top of the section to indicate it is being revised, with a link to the discussion? The tpl:Proposed doesn't seem to be an exact fit. Thanks in advance. Alaney2k (talk) 17:50, 10 January 2017 (UTC)

Hey Alaney2k. You can always use a custom notification template like this:
Or something more general for other related pages:
Just copy and paste the markup. TimothyJosephWood 17:57, 10 January 2017 (UTC)
That's good stuff. Thanks again. Alaney2k (talk) 19:35, 10 January 2017 (UTC)

Image looks wrong[edit]

At 300px
At 348px
At 400px

The box on the right side of United States presidential election, 2016 shows a map with who got how many electoral votes. Fourth in the list of seven vote-getters reads "Spotted Eagl." Not "Spotted Eagle." I thought it was a mistake in the image, but if I click on the "i" to get the image, I go to https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:ElectoralCollege2016.svg and see that it really does say "Eagle." Why does the image look different in the article from how it looks by itself? "Eagle" is the rightmost word, so does the box just cut off the right edge of the image? 208.95.51.72 (talk) 22:01, 10 January 2017 (UTC)

I think that, as you say, the edge of the box cuts off the end of the name. It's not easy to check, as the map is included via a template and I've not been able to find the actual map. But I suspect that the map is an SVG image, and so may render differently from the original version after going through Wikipedia's magic process that shrinks the images displayed in articles. So the whole image is in fact there, but the SVG text has been mis-rendered and goes off the edge of the image. Maproom (talk) 22:18, 10 January 2017 (UTC)
The poster already said it's File:ElectoralCollege2016.svg. You can get there by clicking the blue circle with "i". It's an SVG file which means software rerenders each component when it's scaled. Here it goes a little wrong at 348px. The space betwen the letters vary and "l" is at the right edge leaving no room for "e". PrimeHunter (talk) 22:35, 10 January 2017 (UTC)
So they did. I've edited the image to use a recommended font "Liberation Sans" instead of "Helvetica Neue". This has fixed the problem, as you can now see to the right, though it does leave more blank space than necessary at the right edge of the image. If that bothers anyone, I can make the font slightly larger. Maproom (talk) 22:55, 10 January 2017 (UTC)

Two similar articles[edit]

Hi there. I wanted to create an article about Jay Dean, who was recently elected to the Texas House of Representatives. I looked for an existing article and only found a redlink article of the previously deleted article Jay Dean (Texas politician). So I wrote the article, and added it to the redlink. After I wrote it I discovered Jay Dean (politician), also created today. Not sure what to do. Thanks! Magnolia677 (talk) 02:52, 11 January 2017 (UTC)

Hi Magnolia677. There are not too many edits to merge any history (you've made only one edit to your article). If you're not too particular, then redirect your article to the other article and merge the contents there. Or redirect that article to this one and do the same merge operation. If you are reverted by any editor, discuss on the talk page of the relevant article and follow consensus. Hope this helps. Lourdes 05:11, 11 January 2017 (UTC)

Do I need references if I am creating a page about myself?[edit]

I would like to create a page titled, Mike Beerley. I am Mike Beerley, a musician/singer-songwriter from Philadelphia. Do I need actual references about myself? I'm an unknown who would like to be known. All my references are in my head. Though I do have various music related pages already under my name. Could someone please help me out with this? Mike Beerley (talk) 06:42, 11 January 2017 (UTC)

Hello, Mike Beerley. Actually, writing an autobiography on Wikipedia is very strongly discouraged, as stated in site policies. If you are a "notable" person as defined by Wikipedia, other people can write an article about you. For very useful information about this topic, take a look at WP:AUTO and good luck in your career. DonFB (talk) 06:55, 11 January 2017 (UTC)
DonFB is absolutely right, Mike Beerley, but hasn't answered your specific question. The answer is that every single piece of information in any Wikipedia article should come from a reliably published reference, and most of them from sources entirely independent of the subject of the article. Information that is from somebody's personal knowledge, or that is only in unpublished writings, is not admissible, because there is no way for a reader to check it. See WP:verifiability for more information.
If it is information from the subject's own knowledge, that may be even more problematical, because Wikipedia has essentially no interest in anything said or thought by the subject of an article, or by their friends, relatives, employees, agents, or associates. It is only interested in what people who have no connection with a subject have chosen to publish about the subject; and if that is little or nothing, then there is literally nothing that can go into an article on them, and Wikipedia will not accept an article about them however it is written: in that case we say that they are not notable (in Wikipedia's special sense). --ColinFine (talk) 08:22, 11 January 2017 (UTC)
(edit conflict)Hi, Mike Beerley, and welcome to the TeaHouse. DonFB is absolutely correct that it's strongly discouraged to write about yourself. This is perhaps directly opposite to most social media sites you have come across: that's because Wikipedia is not social media. It is an encyclopedia written by volunteers. As an encyclopedia, everything here should be written from an independent view, which is pretty much impossible when people write about themselves. Instead, the aim to summarize what is said in reliable sources that are independent of the subject. And that brings us around to your original question: every article must strive for verifiable accuracy, citing reliable, authoritative sources - see the article at Wikipedia:Verifiability. Personal accounts are not verifiable, and they are not independent, so they don't count.
If you can make a good case of why you meet the criteria to be classed as a "notable person" (in Wikipedia's special meaning of that term) then the best approach is to make a proposal at Wikipedia:Articles for creation . That proposal can contain the text you suggest, though it may not be what ends up being used. --Gronk Oz (talk) 08:27, 11 January 2017 (UTC)

Could I have some help navigating? Comment[edit]

Heya! Please excuse me if I'm doing something wrong - I'm a fairly new editor. So, I'm ItsPugle. I've actually come from wikiHow where I am an editor and New User Welcomer and I wanted to have a look and try out wikiHow's base software partner. The issue is that I'm lost with using everything. For example, on wikiHow, I usually patrol recent changes but on here I can't? This UI/layout just seems so confusing compared to wikiHow. Is anyone willing to give me some help? — Preceding unsigned comment added by ItsPugle (talkcontribs) 09:03, 11 January 2017 (UTC)

Hello, ItsPugle welcome aboard. You can see see recently changed articles at Special:RecentChanges. You can also add items to your Special:Watchlist if you want to track changes to those particular articles. Is that what you are looking for? I'm not familiar with WikiHow so I can't comment on the differences ... if you ask for something specific we could probably be of more help. --Gronk Oz (talk) 11:31, 11 January 2017 (UTC)
On wikiHow, we have a feature called 'Recent Changes Patrol' where any logged in user can patrol (approve or reject) recent changes (They are made live before they are patrolled though). I was wondering if Wikipedia had a version of that? ItsPugle (talk) 11:39, 11 January 2017 (UTC)
All edits are not patrolled, because there are so many of them. Article creation is patrolled by veteran editors, and that is already severely backlogged (basically, because everyone tries to get their spam on the high-visibility website that Wikipedia is).
Gronk Oz gave you the link Special:RecentChanges. If you click any of the "diff" links that pop out here, you can see what the edit changed and you can "revert" (=undo) it.
Edits to some articles go to the special queue Special:PendingChanges but you should not fiddle with that until you have a bit more familiarity with the project. TigraanClick here to contact me 11:54, 11 January 2017 (UTC)

Reference to Africans as Black African.[edit]

Reference to Africans as Black African.

Why do you refer to Africans as Black Africans? Which of us did you consult with or ask to refer to us with this stupid non-descript term?

Black is not an ethnicity. It is a colour. We are a people. We are Africans. So stop referring to us as Black Africans.

We are not your pets or dogs or cats such that you can refer to us as you choose.

Simply because whites in Africa are confused about who they are and does not mean we Africans are. Stop compensating for your white peoples lack of identity in Africa by derogating ours.

Phatang Nkhereanye — Preceding unsigned comment added by 196.36.113.58 (talk) 14:24, 11 January 2017 (UTC)

We have five million articles. Do you have a specific occurrence of "Black African" in mind? PrimeHunter (talk) 14:59, 11 January 2017 (UTC)

quick end-of-page-link not working / malfucntional report[edit]

please dont send me an emil, just pass on to whomever is best to deal with it / leave a brief message for users who normally maintian the page themselves , that the link at the bottom of [ https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arachnid ] , the external link [ http://www.reptileexpert.org/arachnids/ ] ... tries momentarily to goto some page, (not sure why its on a reptiles site but nevermind...) ... but THEN GETS REDIRECTED SEVERAL TIMES !!

and suprise surpsie, something doesn't quite work right, and you end up at some autoamtic repair-your-windows site. totally useless.

no idea AT WHICH site, youre redirected TO, the windows repair, but which, can be identified by testing redirections one by one, with a redirection checker.

Vurrath — Preceding unsigned comment added by Vurrath (talkcontribs) 15:06, 11 January 2017 (UTC)

Trying various ways to access the link does indeed take you to various odd sites (e.g. [3]) not related to the subject. I've tagged the link as dead but it might be ultimately be best to remove it altogether. Eagleash (talk) 15:20, 11 January 2017 (UTC)
I've now removed it. Google search for the website name only revealed more 'spam' sites. Eagleash (talk) 16:04, 11 January 2017 (UTC)
