How gift cards work
Airbnb gift cards are a versatile way to treat someone special (or even yourself) to a world of possibilities.
Types of gift cards available
Airbnb offers two gift card formats: physical cards available from brick-and-mortar retailers, and digital cards available directly from Airbnb and other online merchants. Regardless of format, both types include a gift card number and PIN—these two numbers will make redeeming your gift card a breeze.
Gift card expiration dates
Good news! Airbnb gift cards never expire. This is true whether the balance is still on the card, or has been loaded to your account. That said, we do recommend adding the gift card to your account as soon as possible to avoid a lost/misplaced card situation.
Note: While Airbnb gift cards never expire, in the US, gift cards left unused for multiple years could be subject to your state’s unclaimed property laws.
Lost and stolen gift cards
Unfortunately, unless you know the missing gift card’s number and PIN, it’s very difficult, and often impossible for our team to recover them. This is one of the reasons we recommend adding your gift card to your account as soon as possible.
Using gift cards generally
In many parts of the world, gift cards can be used for a variety of Airbnb stays and experiences, subject to regulatory restrictions. Please keep in mind that you’ll still need to provide an alternate payment method when booking, even if the balance covers the full amount of your reservation.

If you have a gift card issue
If you’re encountering a problem using an Airbnb gift card, our team is happy to help. For the fastest resolution, we recommend double-checking the following before contacting an Airbnb agent, as many of the most commonly reported gift card issues can be fixed with one of the following steps:
- Double check the card number and PIN. While it sounds simple, long alphanumeric codes are easy to misread!
- If your card has already been redeemed, ensure your card has a balance.
- Ensure your transaction can be paid for with a gift card. While most are eligible, gift cards can’t be used for payments related to the Resolution Center or collections.
If you’ve checked all of the following and are still experiencing an issue, our friendly Airbnb support agents will be happy to help.
