    Then in 2016 they held the referendum and the English voted for brexit. The polls said they wouldn't. Then in 2017 Theresa may called an election saying she was going for a hard brexit, and people failed to vote her out.

    Just to spell it out for people talking about the polls. In 2015 the tories campaigned on a promise to hold a brexit referendum, and the English voted for them. The polls said it was going to be close; it wasn't.

    Remainers need to get a grip. Something like May's bullshit deal is pretty much the only half-sensible outcome from all this. The UK has had several opportunities not to go down this route, in two recent elections and a referendum. Staking everything on another one is idiotic.

    In fact, occasional paternal inheritance of mtDNA is pretty much irrelevant for most mitochondrial studies of ancestry. What _would_ change things would be if there was significant recombination between mtDNA haplotypes. But that still seems to be extremely rare.

    If paternal transmission is not infrequent, then studies of "mitochondrial Eve" must be reexamined.
