OK, I played with the RCP predict-the-GOP-primary thing and I came up with .... Trump

  2. - Early polls *were* meaningful - Trump didn't need a ground game - His ceiling was well over 50% - Republicans got the nominee they wanted

  3. Which ex-coach delivered the most for Trump? PHELPS/HOLTZ (St. Joseph/ND): 50.8% KNIGHT (Monroe /IU): 48.9% KEADY (Tippecanoe/Purdue): 44.6%

  4. Days since Donald Trump announced candidacy: 323 Days Trump has led national GOP poll average: 286

  5. NBC calls Indiana for Sanders

  6. I've been wrong many, many times about many, many things. But this was the GOP map I came up with last fall:

  7. Always remember: Those polls that show Trump leading the GOP race mean nothing.

  8. The difference between Reagan's '76 speech and this one: Reagan wasn't trying to imitate a famous moment

  9. What Cruz is trying to evoke here...

  10. This sounds more like the start of a 2020 campaign than the end of a 2016 one

  11. NBC's reports Ted Cruz is dropping out of the race.

  12. In '08, Indiana made it clear that Obama would be the Dem nominee. In '16, it did the same for Trump on the GOP side.

  13. To pull out Indiana, Clinton needs monster numbers out of Lake County (Gary), where she's winning the early vote 65-35%

  14. If this set of circumstances can't produce an open convention, I don't think we'll ever see one.

  15. Among R's the "not vote for Trump" number was 22%

  16. Except in the early days of this campaign, the majority of the Republican Party has not been against nominating Trump

  17. And that's the conservative path -- he could win Montana now, get more from WA/OR, maybe even pick off NE/SD

  18. W/ all 57 delegates, Trump would get to 1,055 - 182 from nomination. Path: WV: +25 OR: +12 WA: +22 NJ: +51 NM: +12 =just needs 60 from CA

  19. Turns out Wisconsin did change everything: Trump hasn't been below 50% since

  20. NBC characterizing Clinton-Sanders as too early to call

  21. NBC calls Indiana for Trump -- his 7th consecutive win after losing Wisconsin on 4/5

  22. Trump leading early in IN-3 (Ft. Wayne), which looked like Cruz's most promising district

  23. Indiana Dem electorate 2008 Liberal 39% Moderate 45% Conservative 16% 2016 Liberal 70% (+31) Moderate 26% (-19) Conservative 4% (-12)

  24. Looks more like Mich. (70% white / 21% black) or Ohio (74% / 20%) than Wisc.(83% white) or Ill. (58% white).

  25. 22% of voters in Indiana Dem primary today are independents. Sanders has been +29 w/ independents in previous contests.

  26. Indiana exit -- Dem electorate White 72% Black 18% Latino/Hispanic 7% Asian 1%

  27. Per exit poll, 55% of Indiana GOP primary voters are white evangelicals. Average in all states before tonight: 48%

  28. IN GOP exit: If XXX is the nominee... Trump Def vote for 55% Prob vote for 22 Won't vote for 21 Cruz Def for 45% Prob for 28 Won't 25

  29. If we're doing these, I'll add my favorite: If there's no George Washington Bridge shutdown, is there still a Trump?

  30. Longtime McCain aide confirms to me he'll support Clinton if choice is between her and Trump -->

  32. The idea that anyone who wasn't already supporting Trump months ago was automatically never made sense:

  33. Dad sends his 1964 UConn team picture w/ offensive coordinator Lou Holtz. Will the Trump endorsement sway him? "No."

  34. Phelps was in the Bush 41 admin briefly as a deputy drug czar

  35. Bill Clinton at Notre Dame in '92 telling the story of how he and Lou Holtz became friendly

  36. Trump-endorser Lou Holtz was defended by Bill Clinton during the '78 Orange Bowl controversy

  37. The interesting thing about Holtz's Trump endorsement: He's been close to the Clintons going back to his Ark days and even gave to HRC in 08

  38. Trump would bring enormous baggage to the general. But worth remembering where Bill Clinton was after '92 primaries:

  39. After this break: the writer and director of Hoosiers

  40. First in line at Trump's Carmel, Indiana rally: a guy from Ohio who voted for Cruz but now says he's fine with Trump (per )

  41. If you like Hoosiers, you'll want to tune in around 945 this AM for my interview with director David Anspaugh and writer Angelo Pizzo

  42. If superdelegates all voted for the candidate who won their state, Sanders would still trail among them 386-134

  43. NBC/Marist Indiana poll Trump 49% Cruz 34 Kasich 13

  44. Happy 33rd anniversary to The Big Chill @ Washington Hilton

  47. This will probably be my favorite segment of the year: At 4:45 today, I'll be interviewing David Anspaugh, the director of Hoosiers
