    Not all 999 calls require an emergency ambulance. A clinician may be able to offer advice over the phone or a clinician may be able to treat the patient on scene avoiding an unnecessary A&E visit.

    Part of an end of life plan can include a do not resuscitate (DNR) order. Our Gazatteer Team works with GPs to put markers on specific addresses which prompt ambulance crews to the patient’s wishes before treatment commences.

    QX498 – Each resource has its own individual call sign to that it can be easily identified by control. Road ambulances usually start with A followed by a number and QX refers to an advanced paramedic. There’s lots of different types!

    A scoop is ambulance lingo for a special stretcher designed so that either end or both ends can be uncoupled to gently scoop up the patient using scissor-type closing motion. This helps to support a patient in the position found, reducing the risk of further injury.
