The UnaPhone Zenith is so secure you can't install any apps

How secure do you want your phone to be? Or more importantly, what are you willing to give up to keep your data safe?Una Inc is claiming its new smartphone, the UnaPhone Zenith is the most secure phone you'll ever own, thanks to a locked down OS and the inability to install third-party apps. No games, no Snapchat, nothing but the sweet silence of encryption.

The UnaPhone, which is being funded through an Indiegogo campaign, was built in partnership with Tutanota, a company specializing in encrypted email, and Chinese smartphone manufacturer Elephone (the UnaPhone looks like a modified p9000). The smartphone will run UnaOS, a heavily modified operating system based on Android 6.0 — and fully stripped of all Google services — featuring encrypted email, text, and phone apps.

The UnaPhone doesn't leave anything to chance — it comes with over 40 preloaded secure apps, the bootloader is locked, ADB is disabled, and updates will be delivered over an encrypted OTA channel. If that sounds like overkill, it is —but in 2016, overkill may be the only way to guarantee that your phone is secure.

The hardware specs for the UnaPhone aren't bad either:

• 32GB of storage
• 13MP rear camera, 8MP front-facing camera
• 3000mAh battery with quick charging

The UnaPhone is available on Indiegogo for $429 (a discounted price for backers) and the company says it will begin shipping the device by September. Usually that would be an extremely lofty goal for a crowdfunded company shipping hardware, but since the actual hardware used in the UnaPhone has been in production by Elephone for some time, it has a far stronger chance of actually shipping over your average hardware startup.
