The Andy Warhol Foundation teamed with Mattel for the holiday season last year to launch a collector’s edition doll honoring two pop culture icons -- Wahol and Barbie. First off the assembly line in December was the Warhol look-alike -- a Barbie with the familiar white wig and sunglasses -- and earlier this year came the Silver Label Campbell’s Soup Barbie, described by Mattel this way: “Styled with serious attitude, Barbie wears an oversized tee emblazoned with the tomato soup can, faux-fur coat, black leggings and calf-high white faux-leather boots.” The Andy Warhol Museum on the North Side sent out word on social media last week that the soup-can Barbie, designed by Linda Kyaw and with a price of $55, is for sale via the museum for the first time. The doll is boxed in clear packaging with a backdrop photo of the artist. The description at www.warholstore.com reads, “Andy Warhol's legendary studio, The Factory, inspired a quintessential Sixties ‘look’ worn by models, musicians, actresses and many others from the era. This doll pays tribute to one of Warhol's most iconic Pop Art pieces, "Campbell's Soup Can 1," with hair, makeup, jewelry and styling that are straight out of the 1960s, a look that continues to influence modern fashion trends.” "Our partnership with The Andy Warhol Foundation celebrates fashion, pop culture and self-expression — things both brands are synonymous with,” Evelyn Mazzocco, senior vice president and general manager of Barbie told InStyle magazine in December. "The Barbie Warhol portrait from 1986 is proudly displayed at the company’s headquarters as a reminder of the foothold Barbie holds in culture." soupcanbarbie0531
