Interesting conversation. In my research, I am seeing really only 3 vendors with true cloud architecture today: Mojo Networks, Aerohive and Meraki.

I think CLI is essential to know and as you say is extremely useful for some tasks. I find some things are easier to track on GUI, referrng directly to cisco, analysing traffic logs and quick searching.
