The NBCUniversal Short Film Festival is an initiative to discover diverse voices both in front of and behind the camera. It provides creative individuals of diverse backgrounds an opportunity to get their materials in front of key decisions makers from the entire NBCUniversal family as well as agents, managers, producers, and other industry players.

A 12-week program focused on polishing and preparing writers for staff writer positions on television shows.

StandUp NBC is a nationwide search for stand-up comedians of diverse backgrounds, which started in 2003. This initiative allows comedians from across the country to showcase for key industry players at NBC and industry-wide. Top recipient(s) receive an NBC Talent Holding Deal, meeting with NBC Casting execs and an invitation to join the Stand Up for Diversity College Tour.

NBC encourages diversity among our writing staffs by funding select staff writer positions, open to all scripted NBC Primetime Series, along with some series from our cable networks.These positions are filled with writers selected and hired by the Showrunner/Producers of each show, along with the guidance of the network and studio(s).

The selected writers will create new sketch material and gain insight into the dynamics of a late night writers' room, as well as learn about NBCUniversal

The Directing Fellowship Program is designed to take directors accomplished in their respective fields (features, commercials, music videos) and give them the opportunity to work alongside episodic television directors.  The selected directors will foster relationships and fine tune their art to fit the television format.

The Sundance Institute Native American and Indigenous Program is a year-round program to deepen the commitment to support Native American and Indigenous artists and talent. This program allows NBCUniversal to build relationships within the Native and Indigenous communities while creating a pipeline for Native actors, writers and directors.

An 18-24 month rotational program designed for individuals of diverse backgrounds who aspire to join a casting office. Apprentices are exposed to working in both a network and freelance casting office. The Apprentices gain exposure to top level programming executives and attend talent showcases, comedy clubs and other venues where talent is showcased.

Launched in 2012, NBC Entertainment funds a writer’s assistant position on 3 NBC primetime scripted shows. These positions are chosen by the showrunner of the respective show and provide the selected writer(s) the opportunity to be in a television writers’ room and assist in any ways necessary.
