I apologize to all my friends for the fact I will be talking like Joe Bang for the next week straight.

WHM Summer Rewind - Star Trek: Insurrection by yonicthehedgehog in WeHateMovies

I think the reason is there was already a TNG episode with real Native Americans being relocated off a planet so they knew they were redoing the same premise.

I love how much they breakdown how financially irresponsible the Kamino cloning process is.

xHamster wants to give the Wachowskis a blank check, but not for the reason you might think by AlexB9598W in blankies

On the one hand I like how they mention most networks aren't comfortable with the open sexuality on the show, but on the other aren't you basically saying Sense8 is just porn by putting it on a porn site?

What are some of the best movie-related podcasts? by The_Loop_Digga in movies

[–]mi-16evil 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I have a problem.

We Hate Movies - Have to put this first since I created /r/wehatemovies and am a mod there. Fantastic show taking down terrible movies via great improv comedy. Very relaxed and super funny.

Blank Check - This show hosted by actor Griffin Newman and critic David Sims originally started as a unique take on the Star Wars prequels but now has evolved into an examination of directors who are given blank checks by Hollywood to make whatever they want and what films they create. So far they've covered M Night Shaymalan, Cameron Crowe, The Wachowskis, Steven Spielberg, and James Cameron and are in the middle of a series on Christopher Nolan. Very funny, very intelligent podcasts with fantastic hosts. Also check out /r/blankies.

I Was There Too - One of my favorite podcasts. Each episode the host interviews actors who had small parts in major films. For example in one episode he interviewed several of the bus passengers in Speed. Host Matt Gourley is extremely funny and very personable.

Star Wars Minute - Two smart nerds analyze each of the original Star Wars films one minute at a time. Ultra in-depth but thankfully they aren't complete Star Wars fanatics and make fun of a lot of the stupid stuff, especially all the extended universe madness. They just finished analyzing Attack of the Clones.

James Bonding - Two very funny comedians tackle each James Bond film with a fellow funny guest. Very good, and they just came back from along hiatus with weekly episodes!

Denzel Washington is the Greatest Actor of All Time - Two very funny comedians tackle every Denzel Washington movie (see a pattern here?) but use that also as a platform to talk about race in movies. Sadly been dormant for a few months but worth going through back catalogue.

The Film Programme - My preferred British review show. Kermode and Mayo is worth checking out but it's not my go to. This is a quick 30 minutes but usually fits in 4 or 5 segments including reviews and retrospectives.

The Business - Great show I wish was a lot longer. Focusing entirely on the business side of Hollywood, the show starts with a quick rundown of the latest entertainment business news. The second part is an interview with a major Hollywood figure about their work in relation to the business side.

The Treatment - Wonderful interview show with probably the smartest interviewer out there, Elvis Mitchell. Guy asks really strange but deep questions. Real good if you like the NPR style interviews.

How Did This Get Made? - There's a shit ton of bad movie review podcasts out there and this is the only other one I like. This podcast is loud and is more about shouting and big moments which can have you rolling when they deliver. Not every episode hits but with the right combo of guest and film it's great. I'll admit I've fallen off lately so maybe explore older eps.

Filmspotting - The mainstay movie review podcast and with good reason. The two hosts are perfectly complementary, the segments are interactive and fun, and the top 5 lists that end each show are clever ways to garner recommendations.

Filmspotting: Streaming Video Unit - Spin-off of Filmspotting focusing on films available for streaming or rent. Each week they tell you what's new on streaming and review a film or TV show chosen by the audience.

Scriptnotes - Pretty good screenwriting podcast with two hosts with real experience. The hosts aren't my favorite but it's a good show.

The Worst Idea of All Time - Two comedians review the same terrible movie every week for a year. The first season was Grown Ups 2, the second was Sex and the City 2, and the third was We Are Your Friends.

You Must Remember This - Incredible podcast about the secret dark underbelly of Hollywood. Has one of the best tellings of the Charles Manson murders I've ever heard.

Imaginary Worlds - Podcast about cultural appreciate of sci-fi and fantasy. Some very great stuff on topics like strong female characters, how costume designers create superhero outfits, and a five part series on the cultural legacy of Star Wars.

The Next Picture Show - Reviewers from the sadly dead Dissolve website talk about a recent release and compare it to a classic film that may have inspired it. Some pairings include: The Wicker Man/The VVitch, Battle Royale/The Hunger Games, Barton Fink/Hail, Caesar.

The Director's Cut - DGA podcast where two famous directors interview each other. First episode should speak for the quality of this show: Spielberg and Scorsese interviewing each other.

Little Gold Men - Very in-depth but humorously cynical take on the Oscar Race. It's worth listening to year round but between September - February is when the super juicy Oscar race stuff happens.

Remember when RLM joking called him a prick so then he unsubscribed to their YouTube channel and then when people pointed that out he posted an 11 minute video explaining it?

Heads up the movie Sinister also had a 100% for a few weeks before wide release. They tend to invite exclusive horror movie sites like BloodyDigusting or Shock Til You Drop that have a much lower level for good reviews for horror films. It's pretty common for horror films.

r/movies quality has gone down drastically by LeftHandBandito_ in movies

Yeah we are never going to allow rumors like that. If Affleck officially leaves the role we'll allow it, but we aren't going to allow every "Affleck's gardener says he totally heard he's leaving" clickbait article.

St. Vincent to Direct ‘The Picture of Dorian Gray’ Movie by RiverAnduin in movies

Also Dorian Gray has always been read as queer so it will be cool to see a queer female director make a female Dorian Gray film.
