Thank you madcapmax for your submission! Unfortunately, your post has been removed for the following reason(s):

It breaks rule 12: No fan art is allowed. This means no references to movies, TV shows, video games, or any other reference to popular culture.

Images of actual people are fine: actors, musicians, athletes, politicians, celebrities, etc. So, for example, a portrait of Heath Ledger is OK, but not a portrait of Heath Ledger as The Joker. You may post in /r/fanart or one of the other large subs like /r/movies, /r/television, /r/comics, or /r/pics, or a sub dedicated to that subject: /r/gameofthrones /r/breakingbad /r/batman /r/legendofzelda etc.

'A ____ I did' or any variation or be subjective in the title ("awesome work," "amazing piece" etc). Also do not mention your 'cake day' or use karma-bait titles (such as including personal details about the artist to encourage upvotes).

Rabbit Island • Apply for the 2017 Rabbit Island Residency by AnthropomorphizedHat in artistgrants

[–]AnthropomorphizedHat[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Each year our residents receive funding to live and work on Rabbit Island amongst the forest, rocks, and wildlife; and the vast waters of Lake Superior that surround it. In addition to a generous honoraria, artists are invited to participate in our annual exhibition, event series, and publication, presented in partnership with the DeVos Art Museum in Marquette, Michigan.

The Rabbit Island Residency provides time and space to investigate and challenge creative practices in a wilderness environment. Artists live and work on the island for 2-4 weeks, engaging directly with the landscape, responding to notions of conservation, ecology, and sustainability via their individual practices. The residency reflects on the American continent’s four hundred year history of settlement and division of land, and stems from the idea that in a developed society intelligent organization of wild spaces is one of the most civilized things we can pursue.

The island itself, an unsettled and undivided space, enables artists to present commentary on these ideas, creating interpretations and solutions to issues of global importance–climate change, loss of natural habitat, the value of pristine watersheds, the environmental implications of entrepreneurship, and so forth. Modern understanding of our natural reality, as well as our cause-and-effect relationship to it, dictates a need for principles worthy of our time. If artists do not create the work that defines this new space, who will? Art is perhaps the purest form of creation, and serves fittingly as a symbol for all human constructions.

I recently posted a couple of months worth of sketches on imgur. Thought you guys here might like to take a look as well. (digital) by LiarJohnny in Art

[–]AnthropomorphizedHat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The issue isn't with you using the term 'cakeday' in your imgur post, it is with the ignoring of the submission rules which you'll find in the siderbar on the right.

When you post your submission correctly using the form explained in neodiogenes comment then you'll be fine. The title you've suggested is absolutely fine. Alternatively '3 months sketching practive, Digital' would be fine.

Thank you.

Has anybody here given blood what was it like, did it hurt? Also where does my blood go? by Bloody7 in AskUK

[–]AnthropomorphizedHat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Giving blood doesn't hurt at all, you'll feel a tightness in your arm from the strap they apply and then you'll feel the slight prick of the needle as it goes in. For the next few minutes it's just a dull throbbing sensation as the blood pumps out.

The staff are all fully prepared for first-timers who may be a little apprehensive, just let them know that you are and they'll reassure you on everything as well as keep a close eye on you. They will provide water, juice, snacks for you while you wait and afterwards. Once you're done they take you over to a little rest area where they will book you in for another appointment 3 months down the line if you wish and answer any questions you might have.

You're blood is never sold on to hospitals, there would be outcry if that were the case. The two paths it will either go is to a hospital or in some cases to a research area such as a university for educational purposes.

If I were you I would just wait until the earliest date in the location near you. If you do this then you can fall in to their cycle and donate the next time it's at the centre as the minimum time between donations is 3 months.

If you're selling your blood it will be to some private company doing clinical trials. You'll have no control over what it is being used for and it will definitely not be going to a hospital as the NHS will never pay for donations.

The NHS don't have a particular shortage of blood (it ebbs and flows) so don't need to encourage tons more people to donate (just as many as possible). They're a national health service, they shouldn't be paying people to donate blood. They state they need 200,000 new donors a year, if they paid each of those people £30 then they would need 6 million in extra funding.

If you have any other questions feel free to ask and I'll try and help you out.

**Edit- Just to add on, you'll be notified where your blood is taken via text, you'll then also receive a notification when it has been used.
