Internet for All
Internet for All, as part of the Future of the Internet Global Challenge initiative, catalyses new models of public-private collaboration in initially up to three countries, with the aim of increasing affordable internet access and relevant adoption, and developing a replicable methodology that can be scaled within and among other countries for the estimated 4 billion people who are not on the internet. The initiative will be action oriented with an objective to accelerate the achievement of internet for all, in partnership with the governments involved and under their leadership, and will involve private sector, civil society, experts, and the multilateral/bilateral community. The models developed in the country programs will aim to serve as a basis for scaling up and replicating "internet for all" in countries and regions around the world.
Objectives
Develop a scaleable, replicable new model of public-private collaboration that accelerate internet acess and adoption for the 4 billion people currently not on the internet. The project goals are structured in two phases:
- Internet for All report (2015):
- Successful practices on internet access and internet adoption initiatives to connect the unconnected
- Country programs (2016 onwards):
- The first country program, with the full endorsement already provided by the government Ministers involved, has already been identified, subject to final approval at the Annual Meeting 2016, in the Northern Corridor countries of Rwanda, Kenya, Uganda, and South Sudan.
- Additional country programs (up to three in total) in other regions of the world (Asia, Latin America), will be also scoped in 2016, with India already identified as a potential 2nd country program.
