Netflix is working on an original show called Girlboss, based on Sophia Amoruso's memoir of the same name. The 13-episode series will star Britt Robertson (Tomorrowland) as Sophia. The series was created by Kay Cannon (Pitch Perfect, 30 Rock), who will executive produce alongside Amoruso, Charlize Theron, Laverne McKinnon, and Christian Ditter (How to be Single).
Amoruso is the founder of the clothing brand Nasty Gal, which Amoruso started as a vintage clothing website before eventually opening brick-and-mortar stores. She stepped down as CEO of the company in 2015 after a slew of layoffs. The Nasty Gal work environment has been criticized by former employees several times. Amoruso's memoir, however, was a New York Times bestseller.
Girlboss is set to premiere on Netflix in 2017.
