Killing Floor: Incursion updates the light gun game for virtual reality
0Virtual reality headsets promised wild new gaming experiences, but they're also resurrecting older genres — first space simulators, and now, light gun games. Killing Floor: Incursion is the latest of these, a game designed for the Oculus Rift that uses its yet-to-be-released Touch controllers as makeshift guns, letting players take aim and fire at hundreds of horrible monsters.
The game's set in the same universe as multiplayer shooter Killing Floor, but where that game and its sequel gave you free roam of various environments as you fought off wave after wave of genetic experiments gone wrong, Killing Floor: Incursion roots you in place, moving you along a track as in older arcade games like Sega's House of the Dead. It's not exactly a new concept, but Killing Floor has always traded on its ballistics model — a chunky and powerful thing that makes landing an accurate shot on a slavering zombie feel more satisfying than in most first-person shooters. If it can maintain that sensation using Oculus' Touch controllers, then it might have the edge in an increasing pool of new light gun games.
