I had two half chromoly frames. One from 99-05 and another from 01-05. Both were Specialized Vegas Fatboy’s.

The one I had from 99 was perfect and I still have it in the garden shed. The one I got in 01 from a friend cracked on a weld where the steel met the chromoly about a month after he gave it to me. (It was in the back garden until 05.)

So from my experience it’s 50-50 but I have had friends I used to ride with that had the problem of the frame cracking where the two metals meet. (Usually the rear triangle)
