VC Chris Dixon on 'Re/code Decode' Podcast: 'Facebook Is Essentially an RSS Reader.' Also, Soylent!

This week on the “Re/code Decode” podcast marquee interview in the Red Chair, I sat down with Chris Dixon, who is a general partner at Andreessen Horowitz with investments in hot startups like Oculus, BuzzFeed, Warby Parker and Soylent.

Dixon is an experienced investor, who said he is more interested these days in the big-idea investments like in health care and food rather than the lighter stuff like a photo app. He talked about his life on the “dark side” — as a venture capitalist — as well as what’s hot in investing, the alleged bubble and the fast-changing VC industry.

He is particularly riveted by virtual reality and bitcoin, which he thinks are two of the most disruptive trends. And he has made a huge bet on content with a $50 million funding of BuzzFeed — pushed by the popularity of social networks like Facebook, which Dixon compared to an RSS reader.

Later on, reviewer Walt Mossberg talked about Microsoft’s Windows 10 and Ina Fried painted a scary picture of the hacking of cars.
