• AWARDS. The OSS Society — a historical society for the Office of Strategic Services, an intelligence agency and precursor to the CIA — has hired a lobbying firm to persuade lawmakers to pass legislation that would allow veterans of the agency to receive Congressional Gold Medals. The Bramer Group is lobbying on behalf of the OSS Society on the Congressional Gold Medal Act, which hasn’t moved in the House since it was introduced last fall. The firm is the first lobbying shop to represent the OSS Society.
• FOREIGN AFFAIRS. McBee Strategic Consulting is working for the Embassy of the Slovak Republic, according to a contract submitted to the Justice Department under the Foreign Agents Registration Act. For $16,500 per month, the firm “will facilitate media interviews to increase mutual understanding and to strengthen the U.S.-Slovakia bilateral relationship,” the disclosure forms say. The relationship is scheduled to last until August 2016, unless both parties agree to extend it. The Slovakian government hasn’t employed a lobby firm since 2007, when it retained Dutko Worldwide for five months. In addition to reaching out to journalists for interviews, McBee will “organize educational events, develop a digital outreach strategy and provide strategic counsel.”
